FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Overview

Sporting a slim and portable form factor, the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR from FUJIFILM is characterized by its updated exterior design and versatile 41mm equivalent focal length for everyday shooting. Now featuring a weather-sealed construction, this wide-normal prime also incorporates a manual aperture ring for intuitive and tactile exposure control, however an 'A' position can also be used for camera-based settings adjustments.

In terms of optics, one aspherical element is featured and helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations, and a Super EBC coating has also been applied to control flare and ghosting. Additionally, benefitting both photo and video applications, a high-torque DC coreless motor is used to realize quick, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Short normal-length prime is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 41mm equivalent focal length.
Modestly bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light, affords control over depth of field, and helps to keep the overall physical design compact and lightweight.
Pancake form factor measures less than 1" thick for an ultra-portable, versatile design.
One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
High-torque DC coreless motor provides especially quick, precise, and responsive autofocus performance.
Updated physical design incorporates a manual aperture ring with a locking 'A' position for intuitive, tactile exposure control.
Weather-resistant design prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Reviews

Great little lens!

I really wanted a lens that would allow me to toss my camera in a bag and go. Instead of buying an X100V, this allows me to have an EDC & and still have an interchangeable lens as well. Glad I made this purchase!

Great size, OK experience

This takes up no room and gives perfectly acceptable image quality, so I can't really justify not having it given that I'd already set aside the $ (and waited over 6 months!). Focusing isn't super fast, isn't super quiet, and not great close focus. Performance really doesn't compare to the 35mm/f2 for example so don't expect it to. I guess I was expecting a Mk II version to be a little better than this. And not really used to external focusing (front element dancing while you focus) but I guess all of these things are the trade-offs for a pancake. What do I like then? The focal length is actually really nice, like a 35mm that's more useful in more crowded areas (like around a dinner table). Haven't gotten to travel with it yet but this will always go along, for when I want a more point-and-shoot aesthetic without creeping out acquaintances. And I could actually imagine just carrying this on an XT3 in a (large) coat pocket! One final gripe, I wish they'd made the lens cap that fits over the hood a nice lined metal affair like the one that comes with the X100V. The cheap flimsy plastic piece will break within a couple of months. For a $400 lens with the same internals as its predecessor they could have given us that...

Yippee!

I've had this back ordered for half a year and last week it showed up. It's a great Pancake lens with a 35/equivalent of about 40mm. Perfect for a stroll around the Viking deck or even a short walk into town. Very sharp lens and I really like the locking aperture ring on this refreshed model. Thanks, BH Photo for keeping me updated and surprising me with this great little lens. Tried to upload photos but upload didn't work.

A worthy update to a good lens

I've used the original 27mm f/2.8 on my XPro2 for street and travel photography for several years. It has been the lens I put on the XPro2 anytime I go out and carry the camera just because, and it is my default street photography lens. My only complaint about the original version of this lens was that Fujifilm left off the aperture ring. Since all of my other Fujifilm primes have the ring, this always seemed awkward, even after I mapped a control when to aperture. This new version of the lens adds the aperture ring! The lens is tiny. Image quality is great. AF works very well. The update made a good lens darned near perfect.

Flat as a Pancake

Ordered in May, Received in December. I use this compact lens on my Fuji XT-3 for cycling photography (Photographing things while cycling.) The small weight and compact form factor are ideal for strapping the camera to my back for quick shots. I appreciate the locking aperture ring and wish they would include this on other lens. The Focal length suits both landscape and medium range action shots. The lens hood/cap are kind of a joke and I don't use them. Image quality is outstanding as usual. No qualms there. The lens was worth the wait!

Super Compact, Super Sharp

I primarily purchased this lens as a compact option for my X-T4. It's sharper than I expected. The aperture ring has a nice dampening and click compared to other XF lenses. Autofocus is fast as well.

Great walkabout lens

So in the FX world this is a 40mm f4. The 40mm part is great, the f4 ho hum. But it is small, light, sharp in the center wide open, ok in the corners, has reasonably fast focus and no significant distortion. Did I mention small & light? Other lenses will out perform this if you're into 100% crops but for real world just enjoy it. Probably not ideal for video. Hard to beat any E series body with this lens for travel, take anywhere, etc. Aperture ring is a nice touch. weather sealing always appreciated.

Don't get too close

I bought it to use for street shooting which it is okay at. Depth of field is minimal on anything close (I am not expecting it to do any macro shots) even at F11

If you're hitting the street with just this lens mounted on an XT-4 what's a good neoprene pouch to throw that setup into? I'd like a way to pocket a camera with this lens mounted.

I owned the original 27mm But one day it just died. When I went online to see if I could find out how to fix this problem, I found many people had their 27mm just stop working. Do you know if they fixed this problem with the new lens? It was a really great lens and gave wonderful results and did last for several years. It was the first lens I bought and even bought it from B&H before I bought the camera.
Asked by: Charles
They did make quite a few improvements to the overall stability of this lens in terms of build quality and operation so you should get more longevity out of this lens when compared to the previous version.

can you apply extension tube to this lens?
Asked by: Rita
Yes an extension tube can be used with this lens, as it would only shorten the existing focusing distance of that lens. One example is the FUJIFILM MCEX-16 16mm Extension Tube for Fujifilm X-Mount, BH # FUMCEX16 https://bhpho.to/3oAShtj
