Canon EW-75 II overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Canon EW-75 II reviews

EW-75 II Lens Hood is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shades well... falls off too. I've had this item before, for another 20mm usm lens. It locked in place. The one I just got does not lock. You line up the dots, twist it all of 1/4 inch or so, and that that. Friction holds it here, and the slightest jar turns it, first resulting in cut off corners, then the hood itself falls from the lens. Its one grade above totally useless, as I've got to constantly check it. Just a walkabout with the 5DMkII and the 20mm connected will jar it loose. I mean loose as in coming off after 100 feet of walking, the camera hanging at my side. I'll call CANONUSA about this... but I can't see a defect, I think they changed the design, and changed it for the poorer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well. This lens hood is too expensive, period. However, I bought the off brand version first and it's useless - will barely stay on and just doesn't fit well. This Canon version fits well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GOOD HOOD It is a Canon hood so it works with best with the canon lens. They make cheaper snap on snap off hoods that fall off - stay with Canon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't stay on well!!! As with all my wide angle lenses, I consider a hood to be a must. However, I wish the EW-75II would stay on better, especially for being such a pricey little thing! It doesn't do much to lock into place as my other hoods do. I am already on my second one after losing it while shooting at a recent event. Go ahead a grab it as it serves its function well, but be sure to keep a constant eye on it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cut the glare As a Skydiving Photographer I don't get the luxery of 'setting up' a shot with good sun angles, and I sometimes shoot at very high angles, so glare can become quite an issue. This is especially true when you shoot with a wide angle lens, and an image sensor that is 1:1.6. The lens hood gives you piece of mind, knowing that you won't get a 'flare' across that once in a lifetime shot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT! MUST HAVE:) Great lens hood. Fits perfect on my Canon Super Wide Angle EF 20mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Lens. Just like everyone else I just wish the lens hood would be included with the lens, but unfortunately its not. so you have to purchase it. Fits great, easy, useful. Bottom line, I would pick one up asap if you shoot in broad daylight a lot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big improvement for a very useful lens This lens hood has a history of not wanting to stay on the lens, of not fitting very well. My old lens hood, which was used, has been problematic ever since I bought it. This replacement does what is asked of it -- stay on the lens when in use. Well worth the investment.
