Do I need this if I mostly just shoot headshots and short videos? Currently have A7Riii and was debating A7Riv until this came out yesterday.
I own both the A7Riii and the A1 and the only reason I'm upgrading is because of 8k. If you don't need 8k, I would recommend the iv or even sticking with the iii. The advantages of 8k are manifold.

On the Sony A1, does the mechanical and electronic shutters work in conjunction with each other. How do you know which system is being used. By the shutter speed selected??
While we don't have access to the camera yet, we assume it will be the same as current A7-series cameras from Sony.
By default, the camera will automatically switch between mechanical and electronic shutters. However, you do have the option of toggling one over the other and disabling the automatic switching. In silent shooting, only electronic shutter is available.

The Sony demo video with the dancer in the red kimono has phenomenal clarity. TWO MUST ANSWER QUESTIONS: what lens(s) used in the video and was it sharpened in post? Ask sony because we need to know the lens used to judge the camera.
If you are referring to the Sony 8K Sample Video from the Sony Alpha 1, Sony listed the lenses and the exposure settings for each frame in the lower-left hand corner of the video. As indicated, the lenses that were used were the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM Lens, FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens, FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lens, FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM Lens, FE 135mm f/1.8 GM Lens, and the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens. However, they did not specify if any post-sharpening techniques may have been applied to the video
