Heritage Audio is offering a high-class take on the Baxandall curve with their SYMPH EQ, a stereo equalizer for professional engineers. A Baxandall curve, with its special, extended low- and high-end shape, offers a smooth and hi-fi way for high-end polish, low-end fullness, and overall mix control. This EQ gives you classic Baxandall behavior and more. The SYMPH EQ offers features that make it an excellent EQ for the stereo buss, such as stepped controls for precise recall, M/S functionality, and a tone reminiscent of vintage British desks, thanks to the components and amplifiers utilized. If you want to add global polish to your stereo buss during the mixing process or for self-mastering, this is an exciting option to peruse.
Musical Frequency Selection
Six strategically selected frequency choices per band are available: 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 24 kHz on the high shelf; and 20, 60, 110, 220, 360, and 470 Hz on the low shelf.
1 or 0.5 dB Steps
A smart circuit layout allows for a maximum boost/cut of 10.5 dB in 0.5 dB steps. The main rotary switch sets 1 dB steps, while the 0.5 button changes the gradient to .05 dB.
Boosts or Cuts
The CUT button turns the boost amount into cut, so you can darken as well as brighten with the Baxandall EQ curve.
High- and Low-Pass Filtering
In order to keep the sub-low and ultrahigh frequency content well under control, further high-pass and low-pass filters have been added on dual concentric rotary switches, at 12 dB/octave. 5 frequency choices plus OFF are available on each one (10, 12, 18, 22, and 30 kHz on the low pass, and 16, 20, 47, 82, and 160 Hz on the high pass).
Suitable for Stereo Bus Applications
The unit features the same exclusive Carnhill input transformers, made in Oxford, that are found in the Successor. The outputs are driven by 73-type Class-A output amplifiers, built with the same Carnhill St´Ives output transformers as the rest of the Heritage family. Most importantly, the Symph EQ offers built-in Mid/Side capabilities.
Built-In M/S
M/S (Mid/Side) equalization allows the user to process the center and the sides independently. With M/S processing, can brighten your mix without making your vocals sound harsh, or even tighten the stereo-image's bass content without making your bass or kick sound weak.
Eliptical High-Pass Filter
The response of the Side high-pass filter has been made elliptical as in the vintage disk cutters for a precise frequency response reminiscent of vinyl records.
