Canon EW-63 II overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Canon EW-63 II reviews

EW-63 II Lens Hood is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential accessory Lens hoods are essential for shading and protection of the front element. Too bad Canon makes you buy this one separately instead of including it with the lens. Works as expected - stable, durable and easily bayoneted on/off.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's okay It's a lens hood. It does what you would expect. However, it doesn't snap on my Canon 28mm 1.8 as nicely as for example the hood that came with my 70-200mm. This hood fits all right, but at times it's a squeeze and doesn't rotate as smoothly going on or coming off. The velvet is a nice touch. I mainly have it on for protection because the 28mm 1.8 has a rectangular shade built in to the front element. If I were to go back in time, I would be about 60/40 in buying this hood again, since it doesn't seem like such a must have any more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product! I use this lens hood to minimize lens flare and to protect my camera lens. I only wish it also came with an instruction sheet as to how to most easily attach it correctly. Great price and great service, as always, from B&H made this purchase a no-brainer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hmm. Two years later it no longer locks It was ok til it stopped clicking and locking into place. It just freewheels now which sometimes causes opposite corner vignetting. I haven't seen this happen before. It was my best fitting hood but it should last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter light flare problems solved! Although this is just a ligthweight piece of plastic, without it I was getting a lot of low light flare. Especially in the winter months shooting digital. The shade is a deceptive lifesaver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YES!!! Maybe it's just a lens hood, but it has been out of stock everywhere for months. I purchased a third party hood because I couldn't wait any longer, and I hated it!! It was so tight to put on, and it did NOT go on in reverse for storage. This original hood from Canon goes on nice & smoothly, and mount backwards like I wanted, definitly worth the extra money.....when it is available to purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improves function and look of lens When I originally purchased my EF lenses, they were for still photography. Now, I also use them for my Canon C100 when shooting professional video. The lens hood helps control corner light and also adds some important visual substance to the look of the lens on the C100. The lens snaps on firmly, just like the hood on the 24-105mm lens. It is definitely worth the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just buy it already I bought this lens hood for my 28mm. Its great, it helps protect the lens, it does its job. If your reading this then just buy it already, its great. I looked at the cheaper knock offs online and they are poor quality, most of the time with no felt inside the hood. This is a pretty good price, just buy it.
