Canon EW-78B II overview

  • 1Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

Canon EW-78B II reviews

EW-78B II Lens Hood is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 215.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built, but very costly! I looked at the third-party brand, and compared to the Canon brand lens hood, I went with the Canon because of the high quality of the plastic and the felt-lined interior. It fit well and goes on and off easily while staying very firmly on the lens. My main gripe (and it's a big gripe) is that it's almost twice the price as other Canon lens hoods for no apparent reason. I think if you're short on money and you don't shoot lots of outdoor stuff, you could go with the off-brand. But I'd recommend the Canon brand for those who use your lens on hiking trips and other outdoor situatuations where you may bump your lens on stuff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hmmm, aftermarket solution better? This item is composite plastic. I'm positive there are aftermarket equivalents that are just as good. Functionally its pretty decent, although it would be nice to be able to mount this on the lens in more than two positions. Sometimes you shoot at odd angles and the longer barn-door would be better placed depending on the situation. As it is made, the longer barn doors shades are on the top and bottom. This is a good item to protect your lens, as a primary before your screw-on lens filter. It does fit nicely backward onto the lens while traveling to save space. Its a pretty cut and dry piece of gear, no surprises. Could be cheaper.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pricey piece of plastic Is it worth the price? I bought it because I couldn't find a cheap alternative. My experience with a collapsable rubber hood on my Ef75-300 was not good. It fell of when it bumped against something, which was often, and it tore at the fold. The EF 28-135 is my basic walk-around lens and it on my camera about 80 percent of the time, and I am rarely without my camera. The hood doesn't pop off when it bumps into solid objects and it's not going to tear. Still, it's an awful lot of money for a piece of plastic. Lens hoods should be provided with each lens, like other lens manufacturers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EW-78BII Lens Hood for EF 28-135mm f/3.5 I bought this lens hood for my EF 28-135mm lens. Works like a champ! Keeps out unwanted glares yet lets in the light coming from the subject without hindrance. My only real problem with it is that it was not included with the lens itself. It's easy to install and uninstall. If needed, it can be installed backwards for storage and/or travel. It works tremendously and I would recommend that photographers working in bright conditions should purchase one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lens Hood works fine. So, OK, it's a lens hood. It fits the lens the way it should. Pricey for a simple piece of plastic. Annoying that Canon doesn't include with the lens when it comes as a kit. I would rather they increase the overall price than nickel and dime you on items like lens hoods and tripod rings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EW-78B II Lens Hood: I only want the best products, for it is true that, you get what you pay for. That is why I rely on B&H to satisfy my needs when it comes to supplying my photography equipment. The Canon lens hood, which is manufactured for my Cannon 28-135mm lens, to put it simply, just fits correctly, on & off with ease. It does everything which I had expected it to do. It works flawlessly to my exact expectations which allow me the opportunity to capture those possible moments in time. I would highly recommend this product for anyone in the market for a lens hood for their Canon lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serves its purpos well The hood is light and well made. It can be installed easily for shooting and installed backwards for storage and placement of the lens cap. It has provided me with more protection of the lens, which was my initial purpose for buying this hood and also keeps out the stray light. I would highly recommend having this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bigger than expected but it does the job After reading the reviews of the non-Canon one and this one I decided to buy this one. I am really pleased with it. However, I think that these hoods should come with all the lenses when we buy them. We shouldn't be paying extra for these. It is a must when taking pictures under bright sunlight. No more sun bursts in my pictures. The inner part of the hood is coated with a soft cloth. Feels nice. The reason for giving 4 stars is that I cannot use it with my Hama polarized filter because it has an extension to turn the filter. I have to unscrew the polarized filter's extension to put this hood on my lens. It is a little bit bigger than I expected but since this is my first lens hood, I don't have any complaints about it.
