Netgear AX4 Reviews
Acceptable alternative to satellite internet
Need a home local network and internet access for light users. Setup was relatively painless but LTE signal (VZW) is spotty so the internet access is intermittent (95%). There are ports on back labeled “LTE antenna” how do I get an antenna?
Be prepared to troubleshoot
This router doesn't work plug and play. We have an att prepaid plan and we had to go into setting and change the apn settings. Also it came outdated and wouldn't connect so you gotta figure out how to update the firmware. After the apn settings are updated it does work , but this is a lot of leg work. Unfortunately it lost the settings 5 days later and my wife was having a panic attack because she couldn't get online for her meeting. I would recommend finding a better router that you can simply push a sim card in and has lte internet
LAX20 Netgear AX4 4G LTE router
This router worked out of the box for verizon sim card. The main advantage of this router is it works both as a hotspot with a SIM card and a wifi router. I could give it a 5 star rating if it was a 5G router.
Great LTE Router
Finally a LTE router that works the way it should. Super easy to set up using ATT sim card. I like that they included a sim card just in case you don't have one (needs activation). Benchmarked networked device file transfer at around 150MBps 5ghz. It easily handles the max speed of our LTE plan at 50Mbps. The app works great and makes it easy to manage the network remotely. Overall a great device.
The setup was great, but the automatic signup for the protection software and no way to turn it off is not liked by me. Is this functionality using large chunks of data? No way to tell, but my service provider tracks every MB. When nothing is connected large chunks of data is being used. My provider sets a monthly limit and this extra usage is putting my usage over the allowed amount. I have turned of the unit when not in use. Then no data is being used, but I want to leave it on!
Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase. I did have difficulty during initial set-up. The issue was my Google Fi Data SIM was not recognized and after numerous attempts, I came across instructions to update the LAX200 firmware manually. One I did that, I was able to get everything to work.
The reception is poor, so external antennas are required… and doing anything on the management app takes forever.
Netgear Wi-Fi GOOD!
Had to replace failed Wi-Fi modem (another brand) and chose Netgear. Wi-Fi speeds and strength to multiple devices is 3X better. Looks like a great product.
