RODE Wireless GO II Reviews
Very good
microphones work well & offer flexibility
DO NOT BUY.
Absolute waste of money. Any use of Lavalier microphones results in an obnoxious high pitched frequency that cannot be removed. 0/10 purchase. Would not recommend to anyone.
Love the device but forced updates HAVE TO GO
Overall, love the devices. Amazing. Etc etc. 5/5 For the forced firmware updates, 0/5. Update to v2.4.6 ASAP. You're out recording, you come back, you want to backup your 32bit float files, but it won't let you do anything until you backup and update (assuming there's an update.) Well that's great (not great) assuming their backups work, but there's no pause and verify the backups before the device may or may not be wiped for an update. RODE PLEASE STOP THIS. Somehow the backups didn't happen and I lost all my on-device files (on both transmitters.) Now (v 2.4.6) we can connect and download files without Rode central, BUT if you buy these are they aren't on v2.4.6 you might get bit by this. Update your stuff to v2.4.6 asap and hope for the best.
Reciever Power Button Stopped Working
I only had it for a few day and power button on the reciever stopped working. Did a full diagnostic test with the app and it couldn't fix it. Said it didn't recognize the power button. The only way I can turn it on is via the app. I need to get a new one.
Don't work and support is MIA
Wanted to love these, but I've had them a week and haven't even gotten to use them. You can only access certain settings on the Rode Central desktop app - which won't recognize either transmitter or mic (my computer does). They connect to the mobile app, but mobile app says they need a firmware update before I can use them, and that that firmware update is ONLY available through the non-functional desktop app. I've been waiting since day 1 for support and so far have only received an auto-response to update my firmware. Further, if you opt to record a backup file to the receiver itself, it is in Rode's proprietary file format and, you guessed it, can only be transferred or exported to another format through their app. I need to start a project this weekend, so looks like I'll be returning them and researching another mic to use.
Not great
We used these for a pretty complicated documentary shoot that required some small transmitting and internally recording audio. When they worked, they worked great! When they worked...we had multiple days of completely corrupted files where we lost all the audio. We saved everything and rode ended up recovering many of the files, but that was after months of attempts to contact them and coordinate the efforts. Some were unrecoverable. The external recordings were often unusable because it's tough to get good wireless audio and that's consistent across much more expensive products as well. You will have problems but these were no worse than other wireless solutions as far as transmitting goes. Also...just why? Why is the internal recording in some terrible proprietary format that you need a super buggy app to decode to a usable format?
I've owned 2 sets, both broke.
I've owned 2 sets of these, they both worked fantastic for a little over a year and then broke. Rode really needs to fix the quality issue. It's a great mic until its 18 months old and randomly breaks.
Not the best
Buzzing like no other. Haven't tried replacing the 3.5mm cable yet but it's definitely interfering with the audio in my FX3.
