IRIX 45mm f/1.4 GFX Overview

Combining a versatile wide-angle focal length with an especially fast design, the FUJIFILM G-mount IRIX 45mm f/1.4 GFX is a useful prime lens characterized by its manual focus operation and weather-sealed design. The bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. The optical design incorporates a series of specialized elements to reduce a variety of aberrations in order to produce sharp and color-accurate imagery.

Complementing the optical assets is a robust physical construction, dubbed Dragonfly, which incorporates extensive weather sealing to guard against dust and moisture. This manual focus lens also features printed focus distance and depth of field scales to benefit fast and accurate focusing, and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.

Wide-angle prime lens is compatible with FUJIFILM G-mount mirrorless medium format cameras and provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.
Impressive f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in a variety of lighting conditions and also affords great control over depth of field for isolating subject matter using selective focus techniques.
One aspherical element and four high refractive index (HR) elements help to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion in order to achieve high sharpness and accurate rendering.
One extra-low dispersion element suppresses color fringing and chromatic aberrations for a high degree of color fidelity and clarity throughout the aperture range.
Manual focus design is benefitted by a positive focus lock mechanism to secure your focus position at any point to limit unwanted shifting of focus. Also, an internal focusing design maintains the overall length of the lens during operation.
Depth of field scale benefits using hyperfocal and pre-focus techniques and lens engravings are filled with UV-reactive paint to make them readable in low-light conditions.
Dragonfly finish incorporates weather sealing to guard against dust and moisture.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

well-built, easy to operate. very sharp image. Although it's manual focus, it was relativly quick. I really like it

An awe-inspiring lens on the GFX 50S II!

This is a big, heavy lens, especially upgrading from the Fuji XT4 and the 16mm 1.4 lens for example, and it is manual focus only without electric contact with the body. But... The dreamy image it produces at 1.4-2.0 aperture, the object separation one can reach is amazing. I have been using the GFX camera and this lens for less than 2 weeks (upgrading from the XT4 where my favorite lens was the 16mm 1.4) so my experience is limited, but the images literally blow my mind. And I have to say that I also have the GF 45mm 2.8, which is lighter, sharper, with more saturation and contrast, and it has AF, but it can simply not produce the images the Irix lens can on a 'global level (without pixel peeping). I thought that when travelling I would only take the GF 45mm with me, as it is much lighter and smaller, but I can't imagine leaving this lens behind when I take the camera, it is simply that good! Manual focusing on Fuji cameras is really a nice experience and the focus ring and precision on the Irix lens are perfect. The aperture ring is non-clickable so one has to be careful not to accidentally change it while holding. But it is perfectly possible to shoot handheld, especially with the IBIS on the GFX 50S II. Highly recommended lens, not to mention that it is much cheaper than the native GF lenses and I got it reduced even more from B&H.

Severe Vignette

This lens is another attempt to reformat a FF lens to GFX. I had hope that it would have a sufficient image circle but it doesn't. Even stopped down, the vignette is severe and distracting. Adapting a 645 lens would yield better results. For what it's worth, the lens handles well and feels balanced on the 50S.

Solid Lens

It's big and heavy but performs well. I've used it for astro as well as portraits. Some vignette wide open but noting that ruins the image.

An excellent lens for the GFX line

Alright, first things first, this is one heavy lens. Like do you even lift, bruh heavy. And it's huge, much larger than you'd expect a lens of this focal length to be. But it's also blessed with the most amazing manual focus ring I've ever seen, plus a focus lock ring on the front. Another reviewer said something about a severe vignette, I don't know what lens he reviewed because mine, using my GFX 50R, has such a subtle vignette that it's a) corrected in Capture One and Lightroom in less than 2 seconds, and b) is almost invisible in real world applications. I can wholeheartedly recommend this lens, it's sharp, gives you a great, clean image to work with, and the price is right for a G-mount lens. Just be aware that you need to eat your Wheaties if you're handholding this lens.
