Leofoto LH-40 Overview

Securing gear with a knob-driven clamp, the LH-40 Low Profile Ball Head from Leofoto comes with a quick release plate that goes on your camera for easy attachment and detachment while shooting. With a fixed height of 2.7" and a large ball diameter of 1.6", the low-profile design of this ball head allows it to safely support equipment as heavy as 44.1 lb.

The LH-40 is compatible with Arca-type plates and features a bubble level as well as distance markings at the top right next to where the plate is attached. A large knob on the right side is used for panning 360°, with notches on the base enabling 90° tilt in two directions for easy portrait shooting. Independent pan lock and friction control knobs are also available and can be used to easily fine-tune your composition. With a weight of 18.3 oz, the ball head is made of anodized aluminum for durability and goes on any tripod with a 3/8"-16 screw. It includes a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 bushing adapter for more mounting options. It features a camouflage finish for improved concealment when shooting wildlife.

  • Uses a knob-driven clamp and a quick release plate to secure equipment as heavy as 44.1 lb

Leofoto LH-40 Reviews

Rock solid and reasonably priced

This ball head is rock solid, holds an ample amount of camera weight, easy to adjust and very reasonably priced. Supports my Nikon d500 with Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens with ease. Is the RRS -BH-40 better? perhaps a little more refined, but well over twice the price! The Leofoto is just fine, gets the job done just as well, and is an excellent value. I even saved more by going with their camouflage version, which is very subtle and attractive. Sometimes you just don’t need to overspend to get what you need

How doe the LH-40 compare to the LH-30 for loads of 4-5 lbs, such as a FF camera and a 24-70/2.8?

Either will work but the LH-40 has a much higher load capacity and would be more suitable for your setup.

Leofoto tests their equipment down to -40°C. The Leofoto LH-40 Low Profile Ball Head with Quick Release Plate (Black) should perform down to that temperature smoothly without issue.
