Key Features
  • Bright 1500 cd/m² Tilting HDR LCD
  • Super35 HDR Sensor, Gen 5 Color Science
  • Dual XLR Inputs, Canon Active EF Mount
  • NP-F570 Battery, Built-In ND Filters
To top their previous achievement with the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, Blackmagic Design adds an even more full-featured, compact Super35 camera to their cine-style line with the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. The 6K Pro features all the recording features, sensor, dynamic range, buttons, and ports as its predecessor, and adds a variety of important new features such as a 5" tilting HDR capacitive touchscreen LCD with 1500 cd/m² brightness, a Pro EVF option, built-in clear/2/4/6-stop ND filters, dual mini-XLR inputs, an accurate timecode clock, an NP-F570 L-series battery slot, and updated Gen 5 color science.

With only a slightly larger form factor than the 6L, the 6K Pro records the same resolutions up to 50 fps 6144 x 3456 video, and it retains the valuable active Canon EF mount, letting users take advantage of the expansive array of EF/EF-S mount lenses available. The EF mount supports iris, autofocus, and zoom functions using electronic communication when using compatible lenses.

The 6K Pro can turn one frame into two by cropping a second shot from one frame, upscaling to 8K, or simply capturing rich, detailed footage with your favorite EF/EF-S-mount lens. The updated Gen 5 internal color processing makes it easy to intercut 6K Pro, 6K, and BMPCC 4K footage. Record using the internal CFast 2.0 and SD/UHS-II card slots or via the full-size HDMI port to an optional ATEM Mini switcher for live streaming, or output via the USB Type-C port to capture longer clips to an external SSD. The 6K Pro includes a DaVinci Resolve Studio license and supports Blackmagic Raw capture from the sensor. Using the Raw format with the sensor's metadata simplifies editing to suit any project and makes editing easier with DaVinci Resolve.

The compact 6K Pro retains the familiar controls and menu layout of the 6K model, such as ISO support up to 25,600, 13 stops of dynamic range, and 1920 x 1080 HDR monitor output. Professional audio support now includes two mini XLR inputs with phantom +48V power, a 3.5mm stereo input, a mono speaker, a headphone output, and a built-in stereo mic system.

Incredible Camera for the Price

I have used this camera to shoot run & gun work (engagements, weddings, events) as well as short films, and have even mounted it to a car to get some shots of another car. This camera is an outstanding camera for any filmmaker. The ability to scale this camera to whatever setup you need is another amazing part. You can go from having all the power and media inside the camera, to connecting V-mount batteries, putting cages on to hold a monitor, shotgun mic, etc. The one feature that I would really enjoy to see added in the future is another USB-C port as many of us use this camera on the DJI RS3 and we can't use the Camera Control cable if we use external SSD's to record our media.

Game changer

It's incredible how far the pocket cinema line has come. This is now my primary camera - the addition of the dual mini XLR jacks and timecode support removes any hesitation I had of using previous versions of the pocket cinema camera. The quality of the footage, especially using the braw format, is spectacular. The UI is some of the easiest to use on any camera, and the ability to record straight to a hard drive is a game changer. I would highly recommend a few accessories to make this camera work best - namely the battery grip, without which you won't last long unplugged from power - and a cage for additional mounting points, which is crucial if you're recording directly to a hard drive. Out of the box, you can't even mount a mic directly to the body. Overall though, it's an incredibly portable and affordable powerhouse of a camera.

Camera monitor glitch/flicker issue on bmpcc 6k pro

By Colin
Rated 2 out of 5
Date: 2022-11-02

Hey there! I've used this camera on maybe 3-5 projects nothing crazy at all. And I noticed the built in screen on bmpcc 6k pro buttons would start glitching and it would press a bunch of buttons as if I wear doing it. Sometimes it would just stop recording right in the middle of video. I tried updating firmware online thinking that would fix the issue but has not! Can someone please send me a bmpcc 6kpro that actually works?? I spent $2,500 on a malfunctioning camera...

If you care about image quality, you'll get this.

Best bang for your buck filmmaking camera out there. If you know how to use these correctly, the image you'll get is unmatchable for the price point. I got three for our style of work and they've been fantastic. The internal ND filters, the two mini-XLRs, the internal RAW recording, the inclusion of shutter angle, the variety of storage options, and the easy-to-control user interface make these Pockets untouchable at this price point. If you want autofocus and low-light performance, get a Sony. Otherwise, learn to use focus peaking and how to light correctly, and you'll make magic happen, baby.

Amazing features for the price, but effort involved

1st: EVERY CAMERA SHOULD HAVE MENUS LIKE THIS ONE. This camera is 10X easier to use than any I've tried. BUT: Are you an excellent color grader? Then this might be your camera. I regret buying it because I just don't have the skill to create excellent images from this camera without lots of fumbling in DiVinci Resolve. I've never gotten a pre-grade image that was usable out of this thing. My Canon 5D MKIII made footage my customers love straight off the card. People rave about the Black Magic color science and I just don't get it. Even after hours of painful grading my footage doesn't look as good as some straight-off-the-card shots from a Canon C100 or a Sony A7SIII shots I've made. Maybe I'm just too conditioned by Canon color? It's definitely a pro image and the BM raw codec is amazing, but it leaves me cold. BUT, if you have the patience and know-how and already own a bunch of Canon glass you can't beat this camera's features for the price. The built-in screen is excellent and huge. Recording straight to SSD is brilliant. It's big, but light and it's plastic construction doesn't feel cheap. All of the buttons are in the right place and do what you want them to do. I don't miss the viewfinder much. If you're cash poor and want to shoot professional, raw footage then you can't beat this camera. If you have 2x the money then buy something else.

Still the best cinema camera under 10k

The past two years I've shot on the Red Komodo, Sony fx3,6,9 canon r5c, c70, and c300 iii, even using ninja v's to get prores raw but this camera has got them all beat. I love and use the DJI Ronin 4d but the image from this camera is better, it's not the best for long shoots on a gimbal because of power needs and ergonomics. I'm also a certified resolve colorist and a deep understanding of color science has reaffirmed my admiration of this camera and braw. If you considering any of these cameras this is the best, cheaper and you get the full studio version of the best linear editor programs to boot. After shooting extensively while all of the above-mentioned cameras and more importantly color grading all of their highest-quality codecs it's not even close and braw achieves this in smaller easy to edit/color files on inexpensive media. Built-in NDs, a beautiful 5 super bright LCD, GYRO Data for easy post stabilization, and the best laid-out menu/UI make this camera my personal favorite. I only hope the next iteration can use a v mount or the larger sony np batteries. This camera is a power hog like any cinema with an internal fan and even with the grip it zips through batteries. I suggest the tilta setup that has v mount plate and the mounts underneath the camera and you can run all day on a few batteries. All the other brands except Panasonic price gate features and because of that the consumer suffers and I have no idea why people continue to spend way more on a lesser product

This says it takes NP-F570 batteries, which basically don't exist. Do standard NP-F550 batteries work? The manual makes no mention of this and BH only sells 1 NP-F570 battery (Blackmagic branded) for about 4x the price of standard NP-F550.
Asked by: Gage
The NP-F550 batteries are the same (physical) size as the NP-F570 batteries, so they should work. However, we have not tested the NP-F550 batteries with the camera and cannot recommend you use them with the camera or Battery Pro Grip.
