Buffalo 3420DN External HDD Overview

Get reliable always-on network storage with the TeraStation 3420 Partially Populated 4TB 4-Bay NAS Server from Buffalo. Featuring four bays populated with two 2TB SATA III hard drives providing a total storage capacity of 4TB, this storage array is optimized for reliable 24/7 operation. Connect to networks via two RJ45 ports supporting Gigabit and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet. Supporting RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, and JBOD modes, this NAS server allows for easy hot swapping of drives, too.

Boasting a 1.4 GHz Alpine AL214 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, this NAS array is designed for smooth multitasking. Connect devices via two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports. In addition to TCP and IP protocols, the TeraStation 3420 supports SMB or CIFS, AFP, FTP and FTPS, SFTP, NFS, and RSYNC network files. Compatible client operating systems include Windows 7 and later, Windows Server 2012 and later, and Mac OS X 10.11 and later. The TeraStation 3420 Partially Populated 4-Bay NAS Server comes with NASNavigator2 and NovaBACKUP Buffalo Edition software.

Please note, this server comes partially populated and will support RAID 5, 6, and 10 when using additional drives, available separately.

USB 3.1 Gen 1
USB 3.1 Gen 1 features a maximum throughput of 5 Gb/s and is synonymous with USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 3.0.
Rsync
Users can make backup copies from TeraStation to an rsync-compatible device from another manufacturer. This function also allows backups to be made from another manufacturer's rsync-compatible NAS to the TeraStation NAS.
Active Directory
TeraStation functions as a client of an Active Directory domain, so that domain users and groups can be used. This means that they can be used in domain environments of companies with up to 10,000 users and groups.
Hot Swappable
Hot-swap function increases data security. With hot swappable drives, the TeraStation automatically switches off the defective hard disk even if one hard disk fails, so that it can be replaced safely without interrupting work or losing data.
Cloud Ready
Buffalo's TeraStation features B-Sync, which allows users to easily synchronize files between their TeraStation and 3rd party cloud services to make backups. The Buffalo NAS supports Amazon S3 Cloud Services, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Azure.
Web-Based Management Interface
The web interface has a dashboard that offers the user effective views of system status, the ability to resize windows on a computer or phone, and a comfortable button layout.
DDR3 Memory
Take advantage of 1GB of DDR3 memory for smooth multitasking.
iSCSI Target Support
Works simultaneously as NAS and iSCSI target.
Reliable NAS HDDs
This NAS server comes equipped with two NAS hard drives, ensuring optimum performance and reliability in RAID and continuous operation.
Replication with TeraStation
Using replication, a folder in two separate TeraStation NAS arrays is synchronized almost in real time. This only happens in one direction from the source to the destination and is not bi-directional. This function can be set up with a LAN or WAN. WAN setup includes remote connection via port forwarding and VPN setup.
