Pentax FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited Reviews
Those MARVELOUS PENTAX LIMITED
The 31mm is One of the two best lenses I have ever used PERIOD !!! The other is the PENTAX 43MM..PERIOD!!! Will be purchasing the 77mm pentax lens soon...am 73 now, been photographing since I was 30...All three Lenses are built solid as is th KP camera I use them on!!! This KP is one of the most fun cameras I have ever photographed with. Its weather sealed.too..
Fantastic lens. Super sharp, lovely colors
Sharp! Sharp! Sharp!
Did I mention that this lens is sharp? It's sharp. Tack sharp. I got this lens a number of years ago to use on my K-5, K-3. Images were great, and the focal length was good on the crop sensor body. Combined with the K-01 (the mirrorless brick), image are even better. Put on on the full frame K-1, and you'll start to understand what "pixie dust" is. Based on the f-stop used and the focal distance to the subject, the bokeh is really interesting. And the image quality produced by this lens is amazing. Definitely at the top of my recommendation list. If you're thinking about it, then buy it. You'll never regret owning this lens.
Favorite Pentax lens
I've had this lens for about a year now, using on my K-1, and it's now my favorite lens for Pentax, bar none. I've also got the 77 ltd, 100m macro, and 70 - 200 D-FA*. This beats them all (though all are excellent). It's just the right focal length for a variety of uses, the colors and contrast are just beautiful, and it's totally razor sharp, especially when stopped down just a little bit (though 1.8 is still great). Only downsides are it's *slightly* slower to focus given the screw-drive, and some might not like the mild vignetting wide open (I actually like it, oftentimes). Purple fringing can be present, too, but that's easily nipped in lightroom. All in all, if you could only get ONE lens for the K-1 (or any Pentax body), get this. You will not be disappointed. Worth the investment.
FA Limited series are my favorite lenses.
Beautiful lens; one part of the three FA Limited Series that are all wonderful. Favorite lens(es) that I've owned.
Easily my favorite lens
Absolutely beautiful lens. Incredibly sharp in the mid-range F-stops, but still very high quality on the extreme ends (f/22 and f/1.8). Small, which is perfect for what I need it for (travel photography) and really creates some wonderful images. Used it on a Pentax K-1, and FF is where I really think it shines, but I'm planning on using it with my non-FF cameras as well.
This lens is an all time classic. Few glasses have the legacy and the charisma of this little guy. The legendary 3D effect, color rendition, sharpness starting from a few stops from wide open and rendition for full/half size portraits at max aperture is real. It’s an all metal built, and design is a classic. Small size fits Pentax cameras greatly, but it won’t look bad on those little mirrorless like Sony or Nikon Z. A great purchase, at a great price.
I wished that I had purchased this lens years ago but unfortunately I wasn't aware of its existence. I don't know when or how I first heard of it, but once I started to research this lens I became intrigued. Hardly anyone had anything negative to say about it and now I know why. This little lens is a jewel in the crown of Pentax lenses! A little soft wide open but otherwise pin sharp across the rest of its range. Superb color rendition and bokeh! Sharp right to the edge of the frame. This is a fun lens to shoot with and it hasn't been off the K1 since I received it. I feel its enhanced my creativity and makes me want to get out and take photographs. The build quality is just what you'd expect from Pentax, this lens is solid, and for its size a hefty little piece of glass that does exactly what you want. Its not weather sealed but y'know thats okay. Its expensive, but y'know thats okay too. This is a classic lens that just takes great photos and I'm happy that I finally purchased it..!!
