Pentax FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited Reviews

Limited and Legendary

This limited lenses have been around for a long time, mostly unchanged. There is a reason for their longevity crossing from film into the digital era. Pentax designers often refer to something magical beyond pixel peeping and clear frame to frame when talking about these lenses. When you use one you understand what they mean. The focus is slow, its not WR and recently updated with HD coatings. I am not sure HD and new aperture blades make a huge difference but this still is a legendary lens and fantastic for portraits and small enough to take everywhere.

I received this lens and it would not focus and was stuck. Returned to B&H and am hoping the next one will actually work.

Very Sharp lens

Now that I have the full frame K-1, I needed a fast lens for portraiture and the 77mm fits the spot for now. Compact and light as a feather compared to full frame designs. Sure it is a film era design and the focus isn't as fast as modern designs but for portraiture work this isn't a major issue. Can use it on my K-3 as well. Very pleased at how sharp this lens is at 1.8 as well as across the entire frame. I had the 70mm 2.4 and it was sharp too however it will only work on the K-1 stopped down where as the 77mm 1.8 is 100% compatible with the K-1. Maybe when they come out with a 85mm 1.8 or 1.4, the 77 can serve on my K-3.

Beautiful

Bought this to use primarily as a portrait lens for the K-5ii and the K-1 once it comes out in a few weeks. So no feedback yet on how it works not he latter, but on the former, it's a dream. Solid construction, beautiful bokeh, and tack sharp where it needs to be.

Same as it ever was

Now says Made in Vietnam instead of Assembled in Vietnam. Not sure there is any difference. Made in Japan would still be better for a VERY expensive lens, from a Japanese company, but whatever. It's still as good as it ever was.

Expensive, but worth every penny

When I first opened this up and took it out of the box I was immediately transported back to the '60's or' 70's. The build quality and attention to detail are that impressive. This was like the classic equipment from the film day's of photography. Couldnt wait to try it on my K-1 Mk-II and was/am not disappointed.Rich warm colors.Great depth of field.Superb images! I lucked out and got it on sale from B & H. It is already my favorite len's. Now have two of the Limited trio and will wait for the 31 mm to go on sale.....

Great (and remarkably compact) lens for portraiture, I've been experimenting already and like the framing it allows.

FA Limited series are my favorite lenses.

Is this lens compatible with Pentax MX film SLR?

Is this lens compatible with Pentax MX film SLR?
Asked by: Mariano
Yes this is an older design 35mm SLR lens and will work with all K mount Pentax cameras. The Pentax MX is a manual focus camera so auto focus on this lens will not work and it will need to be focused manually.
