Monster Adapter LA-FE1 Reviews

Does not Autofocus for Video with A7 iv

I tested this adapter on a Sony A7 iv. When I attached the adapter with a Nikon 50mm lens, the autofocus setting in the camera was automatically set to manual and could not be changed (it was grayed-out in the video autofocus camera menu). In photo mode, all the Nikon G lenses I tested (50 f/1.4G, 85 f/1.8G, 16-35 f/4G, 28-300 G) were able to eye autofocus and touch autofocus. However, the focus was not as fast nor as accurate as my Tamron 28-200 which is a native E-mount lens. The autofocus was choppy and would make many small corrections. Furthermore, the camera would not track the subject (or the eye) like it does with native lenses. The Tamron by comparison just locks on, does not hunt and accurately tracks the subject. Basically, the autofocus capability reminded me of what the state of the art was about 10 years ago. It works (for photo mode) but it isn't great. I have to admit I was considering keeping this adapter since it does allow me some limited access to my Nikon glass, however I did not feel it was worth $329. if it were under $100, I probably would have kept it.

It works with my Tamron lens

After tried several Nikon F mount Camera to Sony E mount Adapters, eventually I got this Monster to work with my Tamron 18-400mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lens, Auto focus usable on AF-S mode, but, if the focal length 100mm , some times you need to turn the focus ring back forth a bit, then you may push the shutter button to get focus. especially on 400mm.

Slower than native glass obviously

Using with nikon 85mm 1.4 on Sony A7C. The autofocus is what I expected, not as fast as native glass, and sometimes misses the mark. Depending on how much glass you have in F mount, maybe just sell you F mount stuff and buy native Sony or third part native mount.

LA-FE1 does what they say well

I tried several adapters to allow my Nikon good glass to be available during shoots with my Sony A1 (outstanding btw). I was disappointed with prior adapters so much I decided to wait 6+ mos to see where the adapters evolved. The LA-FE1 is what I wanted. I'm did not expect every lens to work in every mode. I wanted an adapter which allows me to seemlessly use my lens in photographic space (not video) without needing to manually manage or adjust the lens or camera. The LA-FE1 does what the said and all the Nikon glass is available to both my Sony and of course (now older) Nikon bodies. Also I note that the Monster Adapter team is actively enhancing and improving the firmware - I like that the device is 'current' as products go. B&H had what I needed and promptly delivered it in packaging safe for photographic gear.

Moderately successful

On a Sony A6500, it provides good performance and auto-focuses well on wide to normal lenses. However with telephotos adn long zooms, AF would just hunt and never be achieved.

Works with all of my Nikon lenses.

Having a cupboard full of Nikon glass I found a way to match it with my new Sony a7iv camera. The later lenses all appear to work well with the Sony body. The one thing that is a bit iffy is my Sigma 150-600 Contemporary tele. with Nikon f mount. Autofocus does not work. I can get good images by focussing manually but I would have liked it to function properly with the Sony.

Not ready for prime time

I bought it hoping I'd be able to use my Nikon AF-S 300 f/2.8 II with it as it has the first version of my lens listed as compatible. It does focus, though in a slow and choppy manner and most of the time the focus points don't show up at all and the camera (Sony A1) won't take a photo. Mine had the v2 firmware and perhaps future firmware will fix it, but for this price I'm returning it because it is useless at the moment.

We have not tested this specific combination, but there is a good chance the lens's AF will function since it has an Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM).

I need a rock-solid reliable adapter that will communicate focal length metadata from my zf.2 Zeiss Milvus lenses to my Sony FX6, so that I can use the FX6 gyro stabilization. Will this work?
Asked by: Thomas
Am not seeking for anything to work on the lens, which is manual focus in any case. I am simply seeking for Sony FX6 to read the focal length metadata from each milvus zf.2 lens so that video files shot with the FX6 will have accurate gyro stabilization metadata recorded into them, which will allow the use of Sony Catalyst Browse to stabilize the footage. Will hugely appreciate if anyone has tested this, or can test this as it will be a fabulously useful tool.
