On-Stage PBRE20 V2 Reviews

The foam wears out and the clasp is too snug, yet too loose?

I've had this pop blocker for 3 months now and while it does its job, getting the clasp onto the mic's body or repositioned can be a chore. When you put the blocker on and slide it over the body of the mic, you are more or less forced to drag/waddle the foam on the inside of the mount across the mic itself to get it into position because the foam leaves very little room to slide the blocker in place. The spacing is too snug even when the clasp on the blocker is fully open. This very quickly causes the foam on the inside of the mount to pull up, tear, and wear out (Picture 1). Along with this, the foam depresses under pressure and doesn't seem to re-expand. Therefore, the foam stops sitting snuggly against the mic and becomes loose. Then you're kind of required to slide the clasp up to a thicker part of the microphone for it to remain snug. Depressing the foam even further and tearing more of the foam every time you have to move it to a new position (Photo 2). And once you do move the blocker to a new and thicker position on the mic so it remains snug, the clasp really struggles to close. While it does its job, I'm really bummed that the foam wore out within the first week of trying to find a good spot for the blocker to sit because it never was holding snug against the mic. With the foam only getting weaker and looser over time. And inevitably scratching my new RE20 because the foam wore out. I can't honestly recommend it :\ What I think would be improvements to it: - Allow the clasp on the blocker to open more widely when putting it onto the mic body so the foam doesn't get pulled/torn when simply trying to position it and get it in place. - Allow the clasp on the blocker to close more snuggly onto the mic body once in position. This was a problem from day one and till I moved the blocker all the way up towards the capsule of the mic today (Photo 3), it never stayed firmly in place. I'm sure doing this will not completely blow out the foam and I'll never be able to move the foam farther down the body again. - Add some more durable foam on the inside of the clasp so it doesn't tear but also fits more snuggly onto the mic once it is in place. The poor-quality foam inside has actually scratched up my new RE20 because it wore out so fast and failed to protect the mic.

Great for plosives, good build

I installed on my podcaster pro mic, fits great, just spread it open. I did bend the rod just a little to line it up dead center. The filter is not cheep pantyhose, it's nice quality.

Does this fit the Rode Broadcaster condenser microphone?

According to the manufacturer, the On-Stage Pop Blocker for Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 Microphones (Version 2), B&H # ONPBRE20JBH2, is not designed for compatibility with the RODE Broadcaster Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone (B&H # ROB). The RODE Broadcaster has a slightly different form factor from the compatible Podcaster and Procaster mics, so compatibility is not guaranteed.

Will this fit a Heil PR-40?
Asked by: Nathan
Because the On-Stage Pop Blocker for Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 Microphones is designed specifically for the EV mics mentioned in its title, it may not work well with the Heil Sound PR 40 Dynamic Cardioid Front-Address Studio Microphone. This is due to the smaller diameter of the PR 40 and the lack of adjustment on the pop blocker's clasp.

Will this pop filter fit a Rode NT1000?
Asked by: D
No, the On-Stage Pop Blocker for Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 Microphones (Version 2) is not compatible for use with the RODE NT1000 Studio Condenser Microphone. The On-Stage Pop Blocker is designed specifically for the Electro-Voice RE20 and RE320 models, which are both front-address style microphones, while the NT1000 is a side-address microphone. You can use the Auray PFNY-6 Nylon Pop Filter with Gooseneck and C-Style Clamp for Mic Stands and Booms (B&H # AUPFNY6), the 512 AUDIO Microphone Pop Filter with Gooseneck C-Clamp (B&H # 51512POP), the sE Electronics Dual Professional Pop Screen (B&H # SEDPP), or any similar pop filter which will cover the side of the microphone that picks up the sound.
