7Artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 Mark II Fisheye Reviews

Does exactly what I wanted

With a trip to Machu Piccu and other places on the calendar, I wanted a lens that could take a wider shot than my 14 mm lens. While this one has manual focus, the landscapes I was shooting wasn't moving around much, so that was OK. The images are clear, the lens works well my older Olympus mirrorless 4/3 camera and I'm very happy.

Very sharp little lens!

I bought this lens to see what kind of interesting photos I could get with it on my Sony A6000. So far I am very pleased with the sharpness and color this small fish eye lens produces straight out of camera. I shoot with an aps-c camera just for fun and to experiment with different third party lenses. I think anyone whose primary camera is a Sony aps-c body would find this lens very fun to use often. I’m looking forward to shooting some astro photography and northern lights photos with this super sharp little lens.

I have this lens with a Sony A7III, and as the B&H Staff person said, there is very heavy vignetting in normal full frame mode. I programmed one of my custom buttons to switch the camera into APSC mode and the vignetting disappears (APSC mode crops the image, so the total number of pixels drops, but the image is very usable). Manually focusing a fish-eye lens is a bit challenging (especially in lower light), but when you get the focus right, the images are great and the fish-eye effect is very striking. The field of view is so wide you have to be careful not to have your fingers in frame as they rest at the edge of the lens! I figured that the very low price was worth the gamble, and I'm happy with my purchase. I don't shoot many fish-eye shots, but it's small, light and cheap enough to throw in my bag for occasional use.

The lens shown is Nikon mount. You will need a Sony mount, Lens mounts are proprietary and need lenses designed for that mount

The 7artisans Photoelectric 7.5mm f/2.8 II Fisheye Lens for Sony E (B&H# 7A7528M2SE) is a totally manual lens without any sort of electronic connection to the camera. Data are not transmitted to the camera from the lens.

What is the angle of view provided by the MFT version? Surely it can't be the 190° of the other versions.
Asked by: David
You are correct, the 7artisans Photoelectric 7.5mm f/2.8 II Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds will have a narrower field of view than the other versions. Unfortunately, 7artisans has not measured the field of view of the lens on a MFT camera. The lens itself is 190 degrees, but once it is used on a MFT camera it does narrow a bit.

The artisans Photoelectric 7.5mm f/2.8 II Fisheye Lens for Sony E is not a full frame lens. It will work on the a7ii. But it will crop by about 1.5 times and you will loose a lot of resolution. Or if not set to APS-C you will get a lot of vignette.

Asked by: Kathleen
The answer is technically yes. This lens will physically fit on your Sony but it is designed for the cropped sensor/APS-C cameras, which will result in the camera automatically cropping in and losing resolution because of it.
