If you hold on the power button for a few seconds the powerful flashlight will turn on. Press it again (short press) it will turn on the strobe mode, and one more press would put on the SOS mode. After that another press will turn it off.

Hi! I experienced the same thing, and didn't do anything about it when I first found truly that the solar charging capabilities of this unit are more cosmetic than functional. If charging the battery via solar is your main goal, then this is not the battery for you. I found this out by reading the manual, where it clearly states that the the solar charge will take days of direct sunlight, and ironically, they suggest not exposing this particular unit to direct sunlight. Again, I did not realize this when I acquired the unit and I did not take the steps to correct my lack of asking the right questions. If you are not okay with this (as you should not be) and you are still within the return-policy's window, I would suggest you return it.
