FUJIFILM 18mm f/1.4 XF Overview

Get Up Close and Wide Open
The XF 18mm f/1.4 R WR Lens continues FUJIFILM's tradition of compact, portable primes lenses for discerning photographers. This wide-angle lens is well-suited to documentary, travel, landscape, nature, architectural photography, and even astrophotography. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture balances size and speed and is suitable for working in available lighting conditions, offers greater control over depth of field, and provides a soft bokeh effect at wider apertures while also limiting the overall size and weight of the lens for everyday use.
Dynamic Wide-Angle Performance
This 18mm lens has the equivalent perspective of a 27mm lens for full-frame format cameras, offering superior wide-angle performance in tight or intimate shooting situations. It can help to capture both meticulously planned shots and spontaneous moments that fly by.
Weather Resistant
The lens body incorporates weather sealing to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Optical Design with ED and Aspherical Elements
The optical design contains 15 elements in 9 groups, including three aspherical elements and one ED element to limit distortion and spherical aberration for optimal sharpness and accurate rendering. The design produces beautifully sharp images from corner to corner with little-to-no distortion at the frame's edges.
Nine-Bladed Circular Diaphragm
The rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality, making it easy to have the main subject of the image stand out.
Fast, Precise Focus
The linear autofocus motor provides fast and responsive, near-silent AF down to a minimum object distance of just 7.9 inches in as little as 0.04 seconds. The internal focusing design also offers the option of smooth manual focusing control.
EBC Coating for Color Fidelity
All of the optical elements in the lens feature Super EBC coating to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity.

Best lens I've ever owned

When Fujifilm says this is perhaps the finest lens they've ever made and that it's capable of pulling every bit of detail from the 40mp sensor, they're not kidding. I purchased this lens along with the X-T5 and the results are staggering. Simply amazing clarity and sharpness. After 50 years of experience with cameras and lenses, this lens stands out among the best. Working with lesser megapixel sensors will still yield outstanding results from every article I've read. A bit expensive but the results look like they came from a $1,000 lens.

Very Sharp

I watched many reviews before purchasing and they all said "sharp lens" so I bought it. I'm very happy with the lens and its performance. AF is very fast on the XH2. Quick processing by BH

Awesome lens and focal length!

I have had for years the XF16mm 1.4. Love it but at times it does distort. I have always love the 28mm FOV from my film (my #1 at the time) days and thought this would a great option for the XH2. This lens has amazing IQ and I LOVE the focal length! It really is becoming my go to walk around lens. The fats aperture is great for nice subject separation and it can focus very close too. Ergonomics are great (as is for most FXF lenses) with top notch build quality. It is not large nor heavy either. The FOV is different than the 16mm 1.4 and for most things, with people in particular, I prefer it. Where do I fit it in? I attended a friends wedding and took two primes, this XF18mm 1.4 and the XF50 1.0, that was it! covered pretty much all of my needs, including low light (no strobe was used so I did not interfere with the pro photographer). Overall a great addition to the XF lineup. And... Did I say the image quality is stunning! And that's the whole point.

Lens Hood

Apologies. The lens hood that comes with the 18 1.4 is indeed plastic. I was referring to the optional square hood which is metal.

Blown away by how good this is

Picked up the 18mm f1.4 for my Fuji X-T5 and it is a killer combo. The optics of this lens are spectacular and the sharpness is mind blowing. AF is super fast and silent. Cannot think of any downsides at all.

This is an awesome lens from the build quality to the image quality it's not too heavy. I use it on my Fujifilm XS 10 so I find it as a very easy combination to carry. I would definitely recommend this lens. I was a little hesitant with the focal wrench, but after shooting for two weeks, I'm becoming a fan, if you get this lens, you would not regret it

Do you guys think it's worth upgrading from the 16 1.4? I really love he latter but the images output I've seen in the internet with the 18 look stellar! I would have to obviously trade the 16 though...
Asked by: Roberto
Personally I think it's a superior lens! I've tried the 16 and was super happy with it... However the 18 is more versatile, and I love how it renders images and colors. Very happy with mine!

Why is the magnification shown .15x (less than that of .21 for the 16mm lens)?
Asked by: Larry
I was wondering if focal length which is usually converted to 35mm equivalent does not relate to magnification, what does? I realized that the focus distance would be another part. I found the answer by B&H incomplete so did a web search and indeed found: https://photographylife.com/what-is-magnification "Because magnification can be thought of (and even expressed mathematically) as a combination of focal length and focusing distance" Sensor size is also considered though not really part of magnification, nor the number of pixels . Guessing a what the mathematical formula I tried a ratio , and then the square of that which worked.

My XF18mm F1.4 has this constant electric motor running noise when camera is on. It is noticeable loud. Is it normal ?
Asked by: Sergey
If you have Pre-Focus AF on, it could be that causing the noise. There is some noise reported, although most don't find it to be a problem.

Will the 18mm 1.4 focus as fast on the XE 3 as it would on the XT 3 or XT 4?
Asked by: Roger
The Fujifilm Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only, Black) (B&H# FUXT3B) and the Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only, Black) (B&H# FUXT4B) are newer cameras than the Fujifilm X-E3 Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only, Black) (B&H# FUXE3B) the former two offer slight autofocus enhancements relative to the less late-model X-E3. Of course, the X-E3 is no slouch and would not be at a significant disadvantage. Moreover, the FUJIFILM XF 18mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens (B&H# FU1814) has been designed with a quick linear AF motor to keep up with fast-moving subjects regardless. As such, it will focus with good speed on all three cameras.
