Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

Tiffen 77WIDCP Overview

Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

This filter uses a Wide Angle (Low Profile) mount. In order to help eliminate vignetting (darkening of the corners), it does not have a front thread.

Note:
Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)
This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
Used best at right angle to the sun
Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras

Good quality images with no vignette

I had absolutely no issues when using this with my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens, including the lack of vignetting, which was suggested to be a problem given the wide field of view with these shorter lenses.

Perfect!

Purchased this filter for my Tokina 11-16mm lens and so far it seems to work great.

Great, dramatic results with this filter. Gorgeous deep blue skies, and in general all greens and blues seem enhanced. However, beware of the potential for striping when used with a wide-angle lens. I am an early stage digital photographer and still have no idea how to remove the brighter stripes that formed when I used it with a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Canon. Also, beware of over tightening. I am currently looking for a filter wrench to get this filter off of the lens. I hope it's not cross-threaded.

Good Filter

Very good polarizing filter, thin enough for super wide angle lenses. Easy to install and remove, had no cross threading problems. Smooth operation. Wish it had threads so I could attach a lens cap, but then it would be too thick for super wides - have to make some compromises.

Great price and works well, I have a hard time justifying the price of more expensive ones as they will eventually be dropped and scratched by me. Yes, I may be clumsy.

The Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) filter has very limited front filter threads to avoid the chance of vignetting in your images when shooting at wider focal lengths. As the lens cap attaches to the filter thread, attaching any lens cap will not be possible. We suggest taking this filter off your camera and returning it to its case when not in use. You should then attach a Tiffen 77mm UV Protection filter to the lens and attach the lens cap to that filter.

Will this 77mm filter fit onto the Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens with the supplied Canon lens hood attached?
Asked by: Casey
Yes. Although I find it hard to adjust the polarization with the hood on. Not impossible, just a little clunky. I don't think my lens hood has the filter window as mentioned in the other answer.

Does this have female threads on the outside to attach a ND filter ?
Asked by: Brad
Tiffen "Wide Angle" filters have limited front filter threads to lessen the change of vignetting when shooting at wider focal lengths. For this reason, you cannot stack a filter on the front of this filter.
