Samyang AF 12mm f/2.0 Reviews

Lens is okay, but make noise while focusing!

I purcahsed this lens for pairing with my FX30 APSC camera. it was wide enough for my requirment and also cheap in price. I paid around $315 for 12mm ( 12mmx1.5 = 18mm) on APSC camera. But later after recording with short gun mic I noticed, focus hunting motor noice picked my on camera mic. specially when we put on eye auto focus. its not comfortable and not use for any professional or personal work. the nose is so bad it pop and cracks between any focus change. if we switch to manual focus then this lens is really value for money! I personally could have add $200 more and bought Sony 11mm 1.8F lens, I could get 2mm wider (16.5mm on APSC) and would get 1stop of light plus faster Sony autofocus without noice. this was regret purchase for my kind of work.

Fantastic small and inexpensive ultra wide lens

While going with a prime reduces flexibility, I would argue that if you're going to bother taking your standard zoom off to put an ultra-wide on, you're probably going to be around 12mm most of the time anyways. This lens is relatively inexpensive for an ultra-wide, and is nice and compact. It focuses quickly, and the 2.0 aperture is great for low light. Image quality is very strong; pixel peepers can probably find fault, but for hobbyists like me, it is more than adequate. I think this lens is useful in many situations, and is just very practical.

How good is this for both astrophotography and landscape photography?
Asked by: Matthew
The Samyang 12mm f/2.0 AF Compact Ultra-Wide Angle Lens for Sony E-Mount (B&H# SA1220SE) stands alone in its price range for a low cost ultrawide APS-C AF lens. Not only is it a speedy lens at f/2.0, but the combination of its two extra-low dispersion elements, one aspherical element, and one hybrid-aspherical element in combination with your setting the aperture to f/2.8 or higher do a tremendous job to virtually eliminate the many types of distortion you'd normally expect in this type of lens. Those abilities make it great for astrophotography and outstanding for shooting landscapes.

Rokinon and Samyang are part of the same company. However, we have not heard of any issues when using this lens or its Rokinon counterpart on the Sony ZV-E10.
