Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Overview

A classic wide angle lens updated for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless systems, the 35mm f/1.4 DG DN from Sigma is an Art-series prime characterized by its advanced and updated optical design, sleek profile, and bright design. The f/1.4 maximum aperture enables working in low-light conditions and also provides increased control over depth of field for achieving shallow depth of field effects. The optical layout incorporates two SLD Special-Low Dispersion, one ELD Extra-Low Dispersion, and one FLD Low Dispersion elements. It also incorporates two aspherical elements and high refractive index elements to achieve a notable degree of clarity and sharpness with well-controlled distortion and aberrations. Also, a Super Multi-Layer Coating enhances image quality by suppressing lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity in strong lighting conditions.

Balancing the optics is a refined exterior design, which features a physical aperture ring, which can be de-clicked or locked, along with a dedicated focus mode switch and AFL button for intuitive and tactile control. For autofocus, a stepping motor is used that maintains a lightweight and compact design while promoting fast and near silent focusing performance for both stills and video applications. Additionally, the lens features an 11-blade rounded diaphragm for smooth bokeh quality and the lens housing is also weather-sealed to suit working in inclement conditions.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
Wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is particularly well-suited for working in available light conditions and provides extensive control over depth of field for isolating subject matter with selective focus.
Lens Construction: 15 elements in 11 groups, including one FLD low-dispersion element, one ELD extra-low dispersion element, two SLD special-low dispersion elements, and two aspherical elements.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions. Resistance coating allows oil and water to be easily wiped from the front lens surface and prevents oil and fat from sticking for easy cleaning.
Integrated stepping motor realizes quick and quiet internal autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. Face and eye detection supported in feature enabled cameras.
Manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications. Additionally, a dedicated aperture ring lock switch can also be employed to prevent accidental shifting of the aperture setting.
Built-in Autofocus-Lock (AFL) button which can be assigned additional functions widens the range of operations available on the lens.
Rounded eleven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Weather-resistant construction with a brass bayonet that affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Reviews

AMAZED!!!

I don't always take the time to write reviews, but when I do its for a really good reason. Either because I absolutely hate something or I'm so amazed I feel like everyone needs to know. The sigma 35mm f/1.4 is without a doubt a fantastic lens. I recently dove headfirst into the photography and videography world and purchased a number of lenses. This lens was no accident, as I chose it based on a number of highly positive reviews. After receiving it and trying it out? The best description someone like me can say is that there is just something great about the appearance of my photos taken with this versus my other lenses. Something pops. Apart from the fabulous bokeh, it's super sharp (in a good way), and the pictures it takes are just stunning. I highly recommend this lens.

I am completing my collection of primes. I have a Sony 20mm 1.8 for astrophotography and landscape. This is the second prime and I find it to be a great focal length for indoors and general carry around. An 85 and a 135 will complete my kit. I really love the Sigma Art lens. It is tack sharp and focuses just fine on my a7r iii. Sorry 50mm I don't think I need you (yet).

Have been in the market for quality glass and this Sigma 35 far exceeded what I expected... I shoot on the Sony A7riii and this glass definitely keeps everything sharp. B&H definitely has the best prices and the delivery time was phenomenal!

Trust this lens.

After checking many reviews and talk to some professionals that have use this lens I decided to purchase it and be my own judge and critic and this are my points of view and personal opinion. The most relevant cons about this lens are: 1. The chromatic aberration is noticeable "But can be fix in post" 2. The weight and size of this lens is a bit more than Sony's. And last. The ghosting the lens have while focusing on photo mode on Sony cameras is Not affecting when you take pictures in a regular fast environment... I mean, i use Sony a7r iv and a7 iv systems and both cameras shoot 9 out of 10 and 10 perfect pictures at variable depth without hosting or delay focusing at all... The price of this little tank is so great that really doesn't make any cense spend double if you shot commercially and have a good practical use of your equipment... trust this lens because it will give you joy and help you save money...

I purchased this lens to augment my collection of primes. It was on sale at $150 off for the holiday. That ended my fretting about if I would get the Sony 1.4 GM or the Sigma Art. I had all of the APSC Sigma Primes for my A6000 and I loved them. When I sold the kit I missed them. This lens does everything I want it to do for a semi wide focal length. I really love the lock on the shade. It is well built, bright and makes a great carry around. I also own the Sony 20mm 1.8 g and the Sigma 85 1.4 art. Eventually the Sigma 135 1.8 art will complete my prime lens collection unless I get a hankering for a 50mm. Look out Sony 24 - 105. Fast primes are coming for you!

Where is the infinity focus on this lens? What's the max before everything is in focus?

The focusing ring on this lens does not have any distance marking. There is no specific marking on the lens for this. The more one stops down the more appears in focus. But like most lenses, there isn't a point when absolutely everything is in focus.
