My gamer pc has USB 3.2 Gen 1 type A ports! Can an ssd external drive w/ 3.2 Gen 2x2, USB-C or USB 3.2 Gen 2 be compatible with my pc?
Asked by: Jorge
Yes, you can use a drive like the LaCie 1TB Rugged USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C External SSD BH #LASTHR100080 using an adapter but the speeds will only go up to Gen 1 speeds (5Gbps) so you will lose performance. If you have a desktop PC and an open PCie slot, you can install a PCie card with Gen 2 USB C and then be able to use the drive to it's full potential. This is a good option for the PCIe card if you are interested in exploring that option and have an available PCie slot on your Computer. Is this drive ideal for photo processing, for example, while using Lightroom, or is it somehow optimized for video use?
Asked by: Anonymous
This drive is universal in that sense, as it is ideal for any of the use cases you described, it is not optimized or weighted in any one direction. In essence it doesn't know the difference what kind of files you put on it. It is simply a storage conduit.

What form factor is the drive inside? Is it accesible in order to upgrade it to a larger capacity SSD 2,5mm, like the older RUGGED versions?. Thanks!
Asked by: Marcelo
The previous answer is incorrect. I was able to remove the orange rubber material and also remove the external cover abs successfully replace the 2TB NVme with a “Sabrent Rocket Q 8TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive R/W 3300/2900MB/s (SB-RKTQ-8TB)”. Sadly it cost $1,399.99 but it works. I now used the extra 2TB NVme on my PS5.

Is this drive hot? I bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro 500GB SSD. Sandisk is very hot, even not in any work load.
Asked by: Yen-Jun
Typically SSD do not run hot as they have no moving parts. As this has a rubber casing it might run a bit warmer
