Each element features a BBAR-G2 coating to reduce flare and ghosting for high contrast and color accuracy. The minimum object distance of 23.6" at 150mm end of the zoom range provides dynamic close-up imaging and add to the lens' remarkable overall usability.

The VC image stabilization facilitates shooting handheld at the 500mm ultra-telephoto position, and the Arca-type-compatible rotating tripod mount has integrated strap attachment loops for safety and support when shooting in the field. Designed and built with moisture-resistant construction for use in inclement conditions, plus a fluorine coating on the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smudging.

I am extremely pleased with my new lens. I just got my cameria back from repair and went to photo birds in wildlife reserve. And my photo s are super sharp. With my new tampon lens. I photographed tern in flight. All but one were tack sharp. Very pleased

I bought this lens for the 500mm focal length as I already have a mid-range lens. I have to admit it was a bit on the weighty side, but mounting it on a tripod was easy and kept it steady. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone looking for a zoom lens.

With excellent weight in the category, focus quality and physical size makes it the most effective.

A few qualms, but overall I am pleased

OKAY 5 stars BUT I have two things that nobody seems to mention in these reviews: 1.) the focus ring feels gritty... like there is some granular stuff in it. I have seen reviewers say its "cheap feeling", but nobody called out this grit/sand feel I have noticed. It's really not too bad, but I returned my first lens because I thought it was a unique defect for that particular lens. Turns out its a factor on my new replacement too, but it has not been a functional/practical issue during the infrequent moments I need to manually focus. 2.) The stabilization motor makes a constant subtle noise (even when you have the stabilization "off"). I am an audiophile so it drives me a bit crazy. I have decided to live with it because 9/10 times I am using it outdoors where the ambient noise overpowers the motor and it wont bother me. The question for me was: Am I willing to go with the fancy Sony focal range alternative (100-400 G) for an extra $1,000 to avoid these two minor issues? And the answer was "no, for 1k I would rather buy an extra lens". A third bonus critique that people do mention is the zoom ring locking mechanism. When you push the zoom ring away from the camera, it somewhat locks the ring wherever it was zoomed. Personally I don't like it. I do it too often by accident, and the lock switch is enough for the rare times I want to avoid focus drift while transporting. Unfortunately the switch only works at minimum range (150). Wish it worked at all ranges, and they did away with the ring "push" locking mechanism. But alas, I am used to it now so it really isn't a big deal. Some consider it a nice bonus feature, but my qualm is that it accidentally interferes with my expected use/operation of it regularly. A "bonus feature" should not impede expected functions, otherwise you get into the feature/bug convo. Overall it feels solid, looks great, very excited to have it in my kit.

Nice Choice For Sony

Great lens! I am using this on my Sony A7ii. Focusing is fast and accurate. Photos are sharp and bokeh is nice . Lens is small enough to handhold, and it fits in my backpack. I was deciding between the Sigma 150-600, and the Tamron 150-500. I am happy with my decision!

I'm a videographer by trade (FX9, FX3) but I'm building a photo kit for home use. Already had Tamron 28-200, but, wanted more reach. This lens provides everything I need from wildlife to my kid's HS band. Paired with Sony a7III. Only con (for me) is it's weight and that's the reason for 4 stars...I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Bang-for-the-buck

I went through a long cycle of testing the Tamron against the Sigma 150-600mm and Sony 200-600mm, I ultimately ended up back with the Sony but its really a toss-up. The Tamron focuses blazing fast and (depending on sample variation) is a sharp beast. I prefer the construction of the Sony (although it is significantly heavier) internal zoom, bokeh and slightly longer reach. But the Tamron has a lot going for it, you save $700 and giving up very little focal length have a compact super zoom with results barely distinguishable from the competition.

The rear element on the 150-500mm does not move. If you are feeling any movement, it is most likely the VC element.

According to Tamron's original press release, due to the current global health crisis, the release date or product supply schedule for the Tamron 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E could change. We have not received an updated shipping date for the 150-500mm f/5-6.7 Di III VXD Lens, but do note that all pre-orders must be shipped before the lens will be listed in our inventory as "In Stock" for shipping or in-store pickup. As such, the fastest way to obtain the lens before it is listed as "In Stock" would be to place a pre-order for the lens, and once the lens starts arriving from the manufacturer, all pre-orders will be shipped in the order in which they were received.
