8K30 and 4K120 Capabilities
Record 8K30 or DCI/UHD 4K ProRes RAW at rates up to 120 fps, including 24 and 25 fps for a more filmlike aesthetic. All recordings are stored as high-quality Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHR files with 10-bit 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. A variety of bit rates are available to fit your project and storage needs.
SSD Recording
Record to standard 2.5" SSD drives or to compact AtomX SSDmini drives offering up to 2TB storage. SSDmini drives offer read speeds up to 550 MB/s and write speeds up to 500 MB/s, capturing up to 150 minutes of 4K video on a 1TB drive.

The menus could be better, of course. Also there's a lot of parts and add-ons that you'll probably need to buy that aren't included in the box, including: SSD storage, SATA III to USB cable (for plugging into your computer), and your preferred power source.

Perfect size for my Sony A7SIII and FX6 Cameras. I am able to record/backup all of my footage up to 120fps in 4K! I have loaded Phantom LUTs which makes exposing for Slog3 a breeze! I like them so much I own two. This also a cheap alternative to buying CFast Express Type A cards when you purchase a Micro SSD. Great features but little buggy

This is my 4th Atomos recorder. I own the Ninja II, Ninja Flame 7, original ninja V and now this. I have been using these devices for long recordings mainly with my Sony mirrorless cameras. First the good. This monitor is very bright, light and has many great features that help dial in that perfect shot (like false color and LUT monitoring). The real game changer is the ProRes RAW recording. The color flexibility in post is incredible, and now any small mirrorless cameras that can output this format can compete with ARRI and RED on image quality. On the other hand the, ProRes HQ is not much better than what you can get out of SD car recording. However the ability too record for hours uninterruptedly is very useful. Now the bad. These devices still have have many bugs. For example, I had the recording stop on me for no reason several times, so now when I record a conference I make sure I have two devices running at all times. I am condition with fear every time I see that little kangaroo. Sure, you can usually restart the receding but this is still a flaw that should have been addressed. Few times I nearly got a heart attack when I got the message that my footage needs to recover and sometimes it may take few minutes to recover. In the ProRes RAW format the footage gets disrupted at times, and later I found out that this happens when shooting in AWB. Recently I had a major problem with audio that cost many several thousands of dollars (and more importantly the shame as I had to explain this to the client). The audio was running into the device from the camera via HDMI, I was monitoring the audio, but the audio track was disarmed. I learned later that I have to occasionally go manually arm the audio tracks as they somehow get disarmed. In summary, the features of these devices and the price is great. However, the quality control is something the company needs to address. As a professional, the reliability is of most importance. I need to know that the device will work flawlessly as designed. My two cents.

I bought the deluxe starter kit on the July 4th sale that said it was $450 off but then the day after the sale the price stayed at $150 off and I think the $400 off the regular price became the normal price. So that's annoying. As a recorder, it's very hot and haven't field tested it yet. I do appreciate the prores raw codec and h265 codec on the machine already so you don't need to buy(which would be deal breaker annoying). But has decent tools and prores raw is great. No hdmi cable or other ways of attaching it to camera bodies. Also annoying. Don't buy if you don't need but really opens up some cameras to prores raw.

H-265 compression is the cat's meow. Great screen, very crisp and bright. I use it as monitor on stills and video. It is a shame that the back LCD panel on Sony cameras can not match this quality. I would not need this as much if they did!!!

This monitor for the price is worth every penny. High quality internal recording and many features that you just don't get in the lower cost models of monitors. Only negative is there isn't SDI included with the HDMI version. Overall a great high quality product that I use for both the Canon C200 and Canon C70.

Perfect companion for the R5

I wanted to expand the capabilities of the R5 with Pro Res and Pro Res raw recording but found the extra features even more valuable. Waveform monitor, False Color, Black and White all help with exposure and focus. The time saved in post is worth the price of admission. It's lightweight on a gimbal and the battery last a long time for me. In fact the R5 uses so little battery since it is not longer recording internally was a bonus I didn't expect. I bought it on sale and it's no I wonder why I didn't get it any sooner. I'm more apt to use the 8K and 5.2K features more often. It didn't take long to get up and running. Ditch the CF2.0 cards and go external. You won't look back.

The Ninja V+ can do 4K and 8K RAW plus DCI 4K 120FPS. The Ninja V cannot. You will need three separate recorder/monitors.
