Atomos Ninja V+ Overview

If you're shooting with an 8K camera, then why not record in 8K raw format using the Ninja V+ 5.2" 8K HDMI H.265 Raw Recording Monitor from Atomos. The Ninja V+ is the same on-camera monitor/recorder as its predecessor the Ninja V 5", but the Ninja+ now features a 5.2" display and records and plays back up to 8K raw video to and from purpose-built mini-SSDs.

The Ninja V+ can record Apple ProRes RAW up to 8K30 or DCI 4K120 directly from the sensor, and it is compatible with select cameras such as the Canon R5. It also includes a H.265 free-to-download license to record with the high-quality, low-bandwidth codec for up to 10-bit recording in ProRes 4:2:2. Display features include a 10-bit screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m² AtomHDR technology for accurate monitoring of your log gamma footage, and support for popular log formats from Sony, ARRI, Canon, JVC, Panasonic, Nikon, RED, Sony, and Z CAM cameras.

Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Ninja V+ features an aluminum chassis and powers from a single L-series battery. Additional features include a variety of on-screen exposure analysis, framing, anamorphic de-squeeze, and focus assist tools. Separately available AtomX SDI, AtomX SYNC, Connect 4K modules, and an SDI Raw license key further expand your Ninja V+ capabilities. Firmware update 10.76 supports Apple ProRes RAW over HDMI with the Olympus OM-1 Micro Four Thirds camera.

Support for ProRes RAW on the OM-1 requires that the camera firmware be updated to v1.1. AtomOS 10.76 is available for download at the AtomOS website.

Atomos Ninja V+ Reviews

Amazing monitor

First time Atomos Ninja user - amazing monitor with tons of capability. Records external pro-res RAW wonderfully!

Excellent recorder/monitor

I'd purchased V+ as a replacement for a Black Magic Video Assist 7 12G which would not connect to my Canon C300 Mk III via HDMI, and was too heavy and bulky to comfortably sit atop the camera for handheld shooting. The Ninja V+ is everything that the Video Assist wasn't. It is small, albeit 5 as opposed to 7, light, records to an SSD, and connects by HDMI, or SDI with the accessory SDI module. If I have one complaint, it refers to the kit included 'hard case'. While it does hold the monitor, batteries and cables, there is no handle to make carrying feasible, as it is designed like a woman's clutch bag, which, IMO. renders it useless.

Product is ok, but feel very disappointed that the atomos original box is damaged. Found that the postal box without any damaged and original box is protected by bubble fill. Why no one ensure the product quality before packing?

On sale?

I bought the deluxe starter kit on the July 4th sale that said it was $450 off but then the day after the sale the price stayed at $150 off and I think the $400 off the regular price became the normal price. So that's annoying. As a recorder, it's very hot and haven't field tested it yet. I do appreciate the prores raw codec and h265 codec on the machine already so you don't need to buy(which would be deal breaker annoying). But has decent tools and prores raw is great. No hdmi cable or other ways of attaching it to camera bodies. Also annoying. Don't buy if you don't need but really opens up some cameras to prores raw.

Love it

H-265 compression is the cat's meow. Great screen, very crisp and bright. I use it as monitor on stills and video. It is a shame that the back LCD panel on Sony cameras can not match this quality. I would not need this as much if they did!!!
