Shure KSM32 Overview

Featuring integral pop protection and shock-mounting plus a large-diaphragm true condenser capsule and transparent Class-A circuitry, the charcoal gray Shure KSM32/CG microphone is built to deliver excellent transient response and neutral tone in the studio or on stage. Its flat frequency response and selectable settings—two low-cut filter options and a -15 dB pad—make the KSM32/CG honest and versatile, so it can be used on anything from vocals and guitars to drums and piano. The CG model comes with a ShureLock stand mount and zippered storage bag.

The uniform cardioid polar pattern of the KSM32/CG helps reduce the capture of stage bleed and background noise, allowing you to achieve more gain and stronger direct sound. The built-in pop protection utilizes three separate layers to minimize noise from vocal plosives, breaths, and even light wind. Internal shock-mounting helps to decouple the mic from sources of vibration that could otherwise transfer from the mic body to the capsule. Being a solid-state XLR condenser mic, the KSM32/CG requires 48V phantom power.

Class-A Output Stage
Class-A transformerless preamplifier circuitry eliminates cross-over distortion for improved linearity across the full frequency range
Extended Low-Frequency Response
Embossed, high-compliance diaphragm provides extended low-frequency response
Excellent Transient Response
Ultra-thin, 2.5 μm, gold-layered, low-mass, Mylar diaphragm for excellent transient response
-15 dB Pad
-15 dB attenuation switch for handling extremely high sound pressure levels (SPL)
Low-Cut Filter
Switchable low-frequency filter provides greater flexibility to reduce background noise or to counteract proximity effect
3-Stage Pop Filter
Integrated 3-stage pop protection grille reduces "pop" and other breath noise
Internal Shockmount
Internal shockmount reduces transmission of handling noise

Surprisingly awesome.

Sounds as good as our super expensive mics. I think every home studio should own one.

Had it forever, still love it every time I use it.

I've used this microphone for close to 20 years now, and decided to write a review, because I feel it needs more love and attention on this site. I actually bought mine in Europe all that time ago, and paid almost twice of what it costs today at B&H. Still I have no regrets. Over the years, I have used it mostly for vocals and acoustic guitar. I am a singer-songwriter with a project studio, so the astronomical prices of big boy mics are out of my reach, but I have accumulated some really nice equipment over the years. Not sure that a 5000$ condenser would be a quantum leap, but it's possible. That said, in the 500-1200$ range, I have used nothing that rivals this one. It has great, crisp clarity on vocals and a solid, firm bottom end. I have noticed that the intelligibility of lyrics is very good with this mic. It never seems to be harsh or shrill sounding, yet there is always a reservoir of extra high end available through EQ. I'm usually using the low-cut filter to manage any rumble and floor resonance. In conjunction with a nice pencil mic (I'm using the affordable Octava 012), it's great for guitar. It's solidly built and comes with a sturdy shock mount, as well as the simpler mic clip for quick setup or tight corners. Today, I'd get the black one; other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.
