Canon ST-E2 Overview

The Canon ST-E2 IR Speedlite Transmitter is a dedicated E-TTL (II) wireless autoflash transmitter that can control an unlimited number of flashes with Canon Speedlites 420EX, 430EX, 430EXII, 550EX, 580EX and 580EX in two separate groups; A and B.

The ST-E2 sets and controls all functions of its slave units. The flash output ratio between groups A and B can also be adjusted from 8:1 to 1:1 or from 1:1 to 1:8.

question

I'm using a Wescott Reflector mounted on a tripod. I want to mount my 580 EXII to the reflector tripod and the transmitter to my camera. What do I use to mount the Flash to the tripod? I don't want to be wired to the tripod with a synch cord (thus getting this system) but I don't have anything other than a synch cord for mounting to the tripod setup.

Hi. I just saw your question from a few years back and I thought I would chime in too. Check out something like this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1305521-REG/impact_dub_2_deluxe_umbrella_bracket_with.html It's a bracket that you can attach a flash or a transmitter to and also attach a soft box. I use a Westscott softbox and kit comes with a cold shoe mount in the kit. I think the Godox transmitter and receiver would be a cheaper solution and a better solution if the flash is hidden by a softbox or reflector. Good luck.

question

Has anyone used this as strictly a focus assist tool in low light situations (without a flash)? I have one and it's never let me down, in/out doors but I'm trying to use less flash, had a lot of focus issues last wedding (dark venue). I tried experimenting around the house last night, seems to work just wondering if anyone uses it for this purpose, thanks.
Asked by: Joseph
Yes you could use this Canon ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter for that purpose, it has a built-in AF Assist Beam.
