Canon RS-80N3 Overview

The compact Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 has a 2.6' cable and is a remote shutter release designed to prevent camera shake for super telephoto shots, macro photography, and bulb exposures. Handy for taking pictures of subjects that are difficult to approach, or to minimize vibration for close-ups and time exposure.

The Remote Switch works just like a shutter button, enabling halfway or complete pressing. It also has a shutter-release lock. With the EOS-3's custom function no. 12 (mirror lockup), camera shake can be further reduced.

Compatible with EOS-3, EOS R5, 1v HS/1v, 1D-series, 1Ds-series, 5D-series, 6D-series, 7D, 7D Mark II, D30, D60, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, and 50D.

Note: Not compatible with the EOS Rebel series, EOS 60D, or the 70D.

This is a well-made quality product. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not five is because of the short 2.5' wiring. This would be perfect if they made that wire interchangeable. For the work that I do, this wire will work for most everything.

I tried the much less expensive generic brand. The slide piece that holds down the shutter button would move when I didn't want it to. The Canon remote switch works as it should. It also fits the camera port just a little better.

While the Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 does assist in reducing vibrations caused by you pressing the shutter button, if you are attempting to eliminate all vibrations from your image for long exposures or macro photography to reduce image blur, you may still use mirror lockup in addition to using the Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 to reduce vibrations.

Is this compatible with Canon mirrorless cameras such as the EOS R ?

According to the B&H website under Accessories for the R5, the correct remote switch is TC 80N3. I would not use the RS for this camera.

Yes and I own the R5 and this release. The B&H website answers such questions. Look under Canon R5, then click on the picture, then go to Accessories. See the list on the left of type of products.

Yes, the Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 would be compatible for use with all versions of the Canon EOS 5D-series DSLR camera (including the original Canon EOS 5D, the 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV, 5DS, and 5DS R DSLR cameras).

Yes it does focus at half press if the camera is set to auto focus. My camera is a Canon 50D. Don't know about others.
