SanDisk Professional Shuttle 4 External HDD Reviews

Ignore Apple Silicon Complaints

By Anonymous
Rated 5 out of 5

Have used 3 different G-Raids for years now. Use on pre-Apple silicon and now Apple M1. Zero issues. Zero drive failures. There was only one unit that had a louder fan, but SanDisk replaced the entire enclosure for free. But again, just a small noise thing. Definitely ignore the 1 star reviews. If you have a Mac, these will work beautifully. If you have a PC, well you're in the wild wild west regardless of what you go with!

Failed *right* after 30 day return window_BH refuses help

This drive is awful. It was working great until *right* after the 30 day return window. Now it continuously shuts off and actually crashes my whole computer system. I work on a MAC and have now read in reddit forums that this is a known issue with MACs. The forums have suggested some workaround (installing different drivers) as it seems to be a driver problem and G-RAID refuses to come up with a solution - new drivers- for MAC users. None of the work around have worked for our systems unfortunately. We have also been a loyal customer to BH for years and I need to say something about their customer service. We have spent 50k+ as our production company at BH and when we contacted them and explained the situation, they said their was nothing they were willing to do since it was out of the 30 day window. That the only thing we could do was contact the manufacturer. I would have hoped that after all the business we had given through the years, we could have worked towards a solution. We would have been happy with a replacement drive (not G-RAID) of equal value from a different manufacturer. But they simply cut off the the conversation and said there was nothing they could do. It has been incredibly disappointing and not only will I not be purchasing G-RAID products in the future, I will be purchasing all camera equipment from other camera distributors whenever I am able due to the horrible experience we had with their customer service team.

The SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 72TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 18TB) is pre populated from the manufacture. We do offer items like the OWC ThunderBay 4 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure (OOWCTB3IVKIT0) that allow you to use any 2.5"/3.5" SATA drives.

Are replacement drive caddies available for this drive, or can the drives just be replaced with Ultrastar Enterprise drive on an existing caddy if a drive fails?
Asked by: Adrian
Unfortunately B&H does not carry a replacement drive caddy for this enclosure. Should a drive fail, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer first for warranty service before attempting to replace the internal drive yourself.

I have an older imac with thunderbolt 2. Is it possible to connect this, using a dongle, to convert thunderbolt 3 to 2? Am I losing valuable performance?
Asked by: Anders
It is not recommended to use this device with any other connection aside from Thunderbolt 3. The lack of bandwidth in Thunderbolt 2 could cause a whole variety of issues, including data loss.
