Razor-Sharp Optics
  • Ideal for macro and portrait shooting, this lens offers a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification along with a 6.3" minimum focus distance to highlight the smallest textures, shapes, and details in a natural-looking 50mm perspective.
  • Excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm ensures beautiful bokeh and background blur to isolate the subject from the background.
  • ED and aspherical lens elements provide optimal correction of coma and chromatic aberration, and a fluorine coating reduces dirt, water, and smudges from sticking to the surface of the lens.
Advanced Autofocus
  • Fast, accurate, and virtually silent autofocus system with suppressed hunting and breathing. Includes focus limiter switch for even more speed and accuracy across a smaller distance range.
  • Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.
  • Unique front-focusing design minimizes the size and weight of the lens for easy and comfortable carrying.
Sophisticated Lens Design
  • Normal-length prime designed for FX-format Nikon Z-mount cameras, however, can also be used with DX models where it provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm provides beautiful bokeh and background blur to isolate subject from the background.
  • Lens barrel indicator for reproduction ratio and focus distance.
  • Large metal lens mount provides more light capture, sharper details, better colors, and less distortion. Compatible with ES-2 Film Digitizing Set, lets you turn your full-frame Z-series camera into a high-resolution film digitizer. Bring 35mm film negatives or slides back to life as stunning digital images. Separately purchased step-up ring required.

Is the 100 macro or 50 macro z best for digitizing slides?
Asked by: Anonymous
Nikon's MTF curves show that the 105mm f/2.8 macro is a much better corrected lens from half way out to the edges of the frame than the 50mm f/2.8. A 105mm lens will also have substantially less vignetting. From my experience with other macro lenses, a longer macro lens will normally have a flatter field and less distortion than a 50mm lens. Based on these factors, I personally would select the 105mm lens for digitizing slides. Distortion is normally corrected in software and can be corrected in camera if you turn it on. While vignetting can be corrected in software, the changes in exposure that result from vignetting correction can change image quality toward the edges and corners of the image. Shooting at f/5.6 or f/8 can typically reduce vignetting substantially in a 50mm lens.

Z30 with Z MC 50mm with ES-2 slide copier- Will the 1.5 crop factor apply?
Asked by: William
Unfortunately yes. Due to the crop factor in the Z30 a lot of the original slide would be cut off. It would be recommended to use a full frame camera instead or a film scanner such as this Plustek: https://bhpho.to/3RwIfIy

I got this lens today, what is the screw on "lens hood" for?
Asked by: Jason
The Nikon HN-41 Lens Hood Lens hoods are designed to be used on the front of a lens, and they are designed to block the sun or other strong light source to prevent glare and lens flare. If light is entering the lens from the side or edge of the lens, a lens hood can reduce glare/flare, thereby increasing image contrast. (For a practical example, think of wearing a hat with a brim outside. If you are facing the sun, it may be hard to see things when the sun is aimed toward your eye line. However, using a hat with a brim to block the sun makes it easier to see and increase the contrast/clarity of the scene).
