The YHT-5960U supports various HD audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. For setup ease, the YPAO sound optimization feature uses an included microphone to analyze your room's acoustics and adjust the system's output for enhanced sound quality.

YPAO

YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer) analyzes the room acoustics and your system, then precisely adjusts various audio parameters to provide the best sound for your room. By simply placing the supplied microphone at your listening position and switching YPAO on, the system is automatically calibrated for optimum performance for your home theater.

Traditional Speaker Setup

This 5.1-channel speaker system includes four surround sound bookshelf speakers, one center channel speaker, and one subwoofer. Each speaker features the elegant beauty of a fine musical instrument, offering a stylish appearance that matches their high sound quality. Its compact design allows ease of placement in any convenient location within the listening room. Keyhole openings in the back allow for easy wall mounting.

CINEMA DSP 3D

This unique Yamaha proprietary sound field technology was created by combining measured sound field data with digital signal processing. By digitizing this vast trove of information and incorporating it into dedicated LSI devices, it effectively reproduces the spaces of concert halls and music clubs in your home.

MusicCast Multiroom Audio

Use your smartphone or tablet together with the MusicCast app to operate the AVR and change settings quickly and easily. The same app functions as a remote control for all of your MusicCast-compatible devices as well as having full multiroom audio controls.

Enhanced Gaming Functionality via a Planned Future Update

Enhance your favorite games, movies, and shows with features that include Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for smooth, lag-free viewing; Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to reduce lag, stutter, and frame tearing for more fluid and detailed gameplay; Quick Media Switching (QMS) to eliminate the delay and blank frames before content is displayed; and Quick Frame Transport (QFT), which reduces latency for smoother, no-lag gaming, and real time interactive virtual reality.

HDR10+, 8K/60 Hz, and 4K/120 Hz Support via a Planned Future Update

Following a future planned update, the receiver will support end-to-end 8K/4K resolutions and higher refresh rate solutions with a single upgraded cable for seamless integration within the HDMI ecosystem. 4K/120 Hz enables ultrafast motion UHD images to be crisp and razor-sharp, regardless of what's on the screen. In addition to displaying dynamic video content on a scene-by-scene basis, HDR10+ also provides, in a small amount of metadata, the scene characteristics between bright and dark so that important visual details are captured.

Yamaha does not specify on this model. But typically their units that are sold at B&H and throughout North America function only for compatibility in North America.

Does this have a connection for a turntable?

Yes but the turntable would either need to have a built in preamp or it would need to already be connected to an external preamp.

Are these powered speakers and do they need to be plugged in?

The speakers that are included in the Yamaha YHT-5960U 5.1-Channel MusicCast Home Theater System receive power and audio signal from the receiver/amplifier that is included in the same system. The speakers do not have their own power plugs. They need to be connected to the receiver/amplifier.
