Bundled together to create a comfortable and professional location sound recording setup, this B&H Kit includes the Tascam DR-70D multitrack field recorder, the Arco AS-A10G small bag featuring a weatherproof exterior and six-sided gear access, and an Arco AH-AHB adjustable harness for proper weight distribution and hands-free support of the audio bag. With dual onboard omnidirectional microphones, four mic preamps with XLR-1/4" inputs, dedicated camera/line and headphone outputs, and flexible powering options, the DR-70D is optimized for DSLR shooters working on film, TV, and web broadcast productions.

Tascam DR-70D 6-Input / 4-Track Multi-Track Field Recorder with Onboard Omni Microphones

For filmmaking, television, and web broadcast applications where you want to record direct sound and ambience, the Tascam DR-70D multi-track field recorder is an ideal companion for your DSLR. Capture up to four tracks of high-resolution audio from external sources and the onboard omnidirectional microphones, route audio to and from your camera, and conveniently monitor through headphones. With strap-friendly handles, a tripod mounting socket, and a camera-mount screw attachment, the DR-70D is compatible with a variety of setups and working styles.

Versatile powering methods and remote-control options make the DR-70D ideal for location recording and extended video shoots. Its four balanced XLR-1/4" combo inputs handle mic- or line-level signals (even +4 dBu from high-end sound mixers) and can independently supply phantom power. A 3.5mm mic/line input with selectable plug-in power is provided for situations that require you to record a lavalier microphone or the output of a wireless receiver. Utilize settings such as stereo safety track recording, limiting, and low-cut filtering to achieve a clean, undistorted recording.

Onboard Omnidirectional Microphones

The DR-70D's two onboard condenser microphones empower you to capture stereo sound without external mics. The omnidirectional mics respond to sound from all directions and are permanently spaced apart in an A/B configuration, yielding a broad, sphere-like pickup pattern. Use them in combination with a shotgun, handheld, or lav mic to record direct sound and ambience at the same time.

Four XLR-1/4" Mic/Line Inputs with Independent Phantom Power

Four locking XLR-1/4" TRS combo jacks support mic level and +4 dBu line level, allowing you to record external microphones or balanced outputs from a professional multichannel mixer. With individually switchable phantom power (24 or 48V) and up to 63 dB of gain, the low-noise HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamps can serve a variety of microphones such as dynamic, ribbon, or condenser types.

3.5mm Mic/Line Input with Plug-In Power

For maximum intelligibility and optimal vocal tone, recordists often prefer to use lavalier microphones that can be attached to their subject's clothing. The DR-70D's 3.5mm mini-jack input is designed for precisely that situation; clip a lav mic (available separately) to the talent, then plug it into the 3.5mm input on the DR-70D. Knowing that many lav mics require a small amount of voltage called plug-in power, Tascam offers a selectable setting to supply plug-in power to the 3.5mm input. If you need to record the output of a wireless microphone receiver or an audio mixer, the 3.5mm input can accommodate it because it supports line-level signals and handles a maximum input level of +10 dBV.

3.5mm Camera/Line and Headphone Outputs

The DR-70D boasts two 3.5mm outputs for simultaneous hookup to your camera and headphones. The headphone output offers a dedicated volume control next to the jack, while level for the camera/line output port can be changed in the menu system. Plus, the side-panel 3.5mm camera input is ideal for simple monitoring of playback from your camera.

Supports SDXC Cards up to 128GB

To maximize compactness and portability, the DR-70D records directly to media cards (available separately). It supports supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards (up to 128GB capacity) for long recording times in standard or high resolution. With an 8GB card, the DR-70D can record in stereo for over 13 hours at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz using the uncompressed, BWF-compliant WAV format.

Powered via AA Batteries, USB, or AC Adapter

Using four AA alkaline batteries (available separately), you can power the DR-70D for up to six hours of stereo recording time at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz resolution with the external inputs, or for up to 11 hours using the onboard mics. For long-duration sessions that require extended recording time, the DR-70D may be powered via a USB connection to a computer, mobile battery, or optional BP-6AA battery pack, or through the Tascam PS-P515U AC adapter (available separately).

Ideal for Tripod- or Camera-Mounted Use

The DR-70D can be placed between a DSLR camera and a tripod or mounted to a cage or follow-focus rig. A tripod socket is on the bottom of the unit, and a removable tripod bracket is mounted on the top. Remove the tripod bracket to access the integrated hot shoe. Also, handles on the front left and right sides protect the screen and permit the attachment of a shoulder belt. All batteries can be replaced without removing the DR-70D from the camera or tripod/rig.

Soft-Touch Controls

In the likely event that you need to use the transport and slate buttons while shooting, you don't need to worry about picking up clicks in the recording. The DR-70D's soft-touch rubber keys are designed for quiet operation to eliminate handling noise.

Stereo Safety Track Recording

Filmmakers and videographers often experience sudden audio volume spikes during filming. An actor could suddenly scream, or a documentary subject could do almost anything. The DR-70D has a dual-recording mode that captures a copy of your take (from a selectable mono or stereo input) up to 12 dB lower (adjustable in -1 dB increments) as a safety track in case of sudden distortion.

Built-In Mixer

Enhance the sonic impact of your audio with the DR-70D's built-in mixer. Each input features adjustable panning, level, limiting, polarity, and up to 150ms of delay. Mitigate wind noise and low-frequency rumble by selecting the low-cut filter, which can be set at 40, 80, 120, 180, or 220 Hz.

Tone Generator for Synchronizing Files

An internal tone generator makes it easy to synchronize files recorded on the DR-70D and your camera. When the DR-70D is connected to a camera, the adjustable slate tone may be sent to the camera and recorded to the DR-70D. The resulting tones can be used as guides when synchronizing the files in video editing software. Generate slate tones automatically at the head (or head and tail) of each clip, or manually via the slate button. Playback can be skipped to the slate tone insert position using the data dial.

Supports External Remote Control

Hand- or foot-operated remote control is possible via the RC-3F footswitch or RC-10 wired remote (both available separately); start/stop recording, make marks, increment tracks, and more without having to touch the DR-70D.

Additional Features

  • Angled 128 x 64 pixel graphic LCD with backlight for easy viewing
  • Simple, efficient file transfer via USB 2.0 connection to a computer
  • Adjustable delay function eliminates time lags caused by differences in the distances of two sets of inputs from the sound source

Arco AS-A10G Small Bag for Audio Field Recorder

Built to serve the specialized needs of sound mixers and location recordists, the Arco AS-A10G is a durable and rugged bag that can securely hold a multitrack field recorder plus vital accessories while maintaining access to the recorder's controls and connectors. Its small size is compatible with popular compact field recorders such as the Zoom F8, Zaxcom Max, Tascam DR70, and Sound Devices MixPre-6 II. It has a weatherproof nylon shell and a clear plastic top cover to protect your gear from the elements.

By utilizing a rigid frame, the AS-A10G supports a full load without sagging or bending. Not only does it have a dedicated compartment for a recorder, but its additional space holds wireless transmitters, cables, batteries, and more. No matter how your field recorder is configured, the AS-A10G's six-sided access lets you get to the device's ports, switches, knobs, and buttons without trouble. In the likely event that boompole operation becomes your responsibility, there are two boompole loops for efficient deployment. Set the bag on its bottom feet, carry it with the handles, sling it over your shoulder, or attach it to Arco's AH-AHB harness (available separately).

For Small Field Audio Recorders

Compatible with popular compact field recorders like the ZOOM F8, Zaxcom Max, Tascam DR70, and Sound Devices MixPre-6 II.

All-Weather Protection

In case of inclement weather, the weatherproof nylon construction will protect your gear from rain and moisture so it stays dry while you're walking to the location. A clear plastic cover provides extra protection as well as visual access to your recorder so you can continue to work, even in bad weather.

Six-Sided Access

The AS-A10G allows access to your recorder on six sides so you'll be able to make direct connections even if the connectors are on opposite sides of the recorder. There's no need to loop cables around the bag or other components. Just open the nearest flap and plug in.

Rigid Frame

Don't worry about the bag losing its shape when fully loaded; it has a rigid frame to keep it from bending or sagging. This lets you pack all the gear you need without worry that the bag will buckle under the weight.

Clear Plastic Cover

Even during challenging weather, the bag's clear plastic cover offers simple and effective protection. Plus, it lets you view your recorder's metering and control panel for continued monitoring while recording. When the rain stops, just roll up the cover and tuck it out of the way.

Interior Elastic Loops

In the likely event that you need to carry wireless transmitters or receivers during the gig, secure them in place with the interior elastic loops. They're also useful for keeping cable clutter under control and preventing accessories from tumbling around.

Interior Lifts

The AS-A10G was designed with interior lifts to provide adjustability for the height of your field recorder, placing it at the ideal position for comfortable access. So you can keep your recorder's control panel within reach for trouble-free access to its essential functions.

Boompole Loops

Since you won't always have a dedicated boompole operator, the AS-A10G bag offers two touch-connect loops perfect for holding a boompole on standby. The touch-connect style means you can deploy it immediately when it's time to wield the boom and get the best mic position.

Accessory Pockets

Two accessory pockets grant generous space for common extras such as cables, batteries, and headsets. By keeping them and personal essentials like your smartphone, keys, and wallet in the bag, your pockets will stay light.

Optional Adjustable Harness

Add the optional Arco AH-AHB harness (available separately) to wear your AS-A10G bag. The padded and fully adjustable harness conveniently attaches to the AS-A10G bag via integrated D-rings. The addition of the AH-AHB harness positions your field recorder in front of you while delivering a secure and comfortable fit as you follow the action through long shoots.

Arco AH-AHB Adjustable Harness for AS-A10G Field Recorder Bag

The Arco AH-AHB Adjustable Harness easily holds and supports your field recorder bag, such as the Arco AS-A10G. The AH-AHB harness is designed to quickly attach to most field recorder bags and lets you keep your hands free for important tasks such as operating your equipment and positioning a boompole while recording sound or dialogue on location. This universal shoulder harness features lightweight foam construction, breathable mesh fabric, and padded shoulder straps to ensure comfort and coolness during long shoots. Being fully adjustable, the AH-AHB harness can provide an optimal fit for wearers of all heights and body types. Plus, it sports a pocket to keep vital accessories within reach and includes a carrying case for convenient transport.

Lightweight and Comfortable

Knowing that comfort is a priority for extended shoots, Arco designed the harness accordingly. Not only is it padded, but also the lightweight foam won't feel like a burden, and the width of the shoulder straps prevents the harness from digging into your shoulders. Additionally, breathability and ventilation—essential for gigs in hot and humid conditions—is provided by the mesh fabric.

Back Strap Adjusts for Optimal Fit

Regardless of your height, the harness can ensure an optimal fit thanks to its adjustable back strap. Use the adjusting buckle to change the strap length quickly and with ease.

Dual Belt Adjustment Straps

With two hip belt adjustment points, the AH-AHB harness has no problem accommodating a range of preferences for how snug your field recorder bag should be and exactly where it should sit. By adjusting the two belt straps, which loosen as easily as they tighten, you can achieve the ideal fit, no matter your body type.

Accessory Pocket

An accessory pocket is built into the harness to keep items like batteries, foam windscreens, and windbusters close at hand so your session will go smoothly, and you can capture sound without interrupting your workflow.

Aluminum Buckles

The aluminum buckles are strong, durable, and easy to connect. You'll be able to harness up and hook on the record bag quickly, so you don't miss a second of sound when the camera starts rolling.

When recording nature, bird calls, ocean sounds ...

When recording nature, bird calls, ocean sounds etc should the low cut filter be used? If so what would the best setting be?
Asked by: William
A low pass filter can be useful in minimizing rumble from wind noise or handling noise from holding a mic in your hand. But, it is always better to minimize handling and wind noise at the microphone. Some microphones pick up less handling noise than others (dynamic). But, it is common to record natural sound outdoors with a shotgun mic, which can minimize wind noise through a blimp or dead cat, and handling noise with a shock mount. The low pass filter on the 70D is good, in that it doesn't deaden so much that it would effect the fidelity of the recording. Most of what is filtered is beyond what the human ear can hear, and this can make your recording easier to edit. I normally use the low pass on the 70D when recording on a dynamic, handheld stick mic. I rely on an Auray shock mount and dead cat on a boom to deaden the handling and wind noise on my Senn 416 shotgun. If recording outdoors, I would recommend bringing a spare set of 4 AA batteries. The 70D eats batteries, and it acts strangely when batteries get to below 30%. Otherwise, it's an amazing recorder, with clean mic preamps, and an outstanding form factor for mirrorless/DSLR shooters.

Can you 'pause' recording to avoid creating ...

Can you 'pause' recording to avoid creating separate files? It seems you can only stop recording when you want to take a break. This ends the file and creates a new file when you start recording again. I would like to pause recording for a break then resume recording on the same file after the break. Like on the tascam dr-05...to pause recording, and keep the file open but not active, you just hit the record button again. This puts the file on hold until you want to resume recording. And if you want to stop recording the track you hit the stop button. Thanks
Asked by: Curtis
The Tascam DR 70D only has a pause and play button for playback recordings it does not have a pause feature to use while recording, however the Tascam DR-60D does offer a pause while recording button this is the link for it bellow https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1084690-REG/tascam_dr_60mkii_portable_recorder_for_dslr.html?sts=pi&pim=Y
