Atomos AtomX Cast Reviews
Not serviceable
I can't express how disappointed I am in this product. I'm even more disappointed in ATOMOS's customer service and repair. I bought this one when it first came out in the cost was over $600. Looked like a really cool product and it worked really well. But after it was out of warranty, it started producing a white noise in the stream and in the HDMI output. After several emails back and forth with their repair unit, and them wasting my time with stupid questions, they finally tell me that since the product is out of warranty it is non-serviceable. I'm so disappointed. This is totally outside of my experience in any manner with their products but because of this I won't be purchasing anything from them in the future and I would recommend that you examine carefully the things that you buy from them in the future.
Cast Master
Does exactly what it is designed to do and simplifies Streaming set up And execution.
Product not as advertised on specs. No Interlaced output!
I dont know if I am missing any points or other online reviews, but Atomos web/manuals gave very misleading spec info with little help from Atomos support. To cut the story short, I bought the AtomX Cast for basic HDMI switching and I needed 1080i50 program output. I fed my cam signal at 1080i50 without problems, set the detected input as my primary source, but the project rate did not conform to 1080i50. Instead, its locked at HDp25 rate with no other options to change. I suspect that this CAST unit is limited to handling only progressive outputs. This is disappointing as the manual stated that its capable to do Interlace on the HDMI Program output. Atomos support didnt seem to understand my requirements and can only tell me to download the latest firmware and reset the unit. At the time of writing this review, I am on FW10.76. If p or i mode doesnt bother you, then this isnt an issue, but my broadcaster requires an interlaced feed, so am quite bummed with this product. its quite useless if I had to add another cross converter just to bump it back to Interlace on the HDMI program output.
ONLY USB-C
NO functionality with legacy usb connectors incl 3.0 or 3.1. So FALSE in their claims that it's USB compatible OR PnP. It has a very debilitating limitation given this and they should fix ASAP to save their reputation.
Great Switcher
I would easily give this 5 stars but for the ability to record each input individually or record the program stream in 4K at the very least.
Requires Ninja V Vs. 10.71 for USB
Recently purchased Atomos X Cast to accompany my Ninja V and downloaded latest Ninja V firmware vs. 10.73 from Atomos. Two days were spent trying to resolve no USB-C Program output from the Cast which was not recognized by Mac OS Big Sur or OBS in either Mac or Windows. Took a chance that this firmware did not include the support for the Cast that was included in firmware vs. 10.71 which I had not installed. Reset the Ninja V to factory defaults and installed vs. 10.71 and the issue was resolved as long as the included USB-C cable was used to a USB-C computer port. An adapter from USB-C to a USB-A port did not work. For the price this is a no-brainer upgrade for the Ninja V which should improve with new firmware updates.
Perfect companion for the ninja v
Just what I needed for conferencing. One thing to keep in mind that got me confused is that while the usb cast out will automatically stream, the hdmi pgm out needs for the stream to be set to active for it to send a signal out the port. I use hdmi splitters so I can use monitor displays as well as camera inputs. Four inputs is just enough for my purposes. I haven't tried any of the other functions besides the switcher.
