Great value, but has a few bugs

At $169, this monitor has a pretty solid value. The display is pretty bright and has most of the monitoring tools you could want. Some pros that really stick out to me are the ability to import LUTs, and tools like frame guides, grids, peaking, and zebras, which are all customizable so you can adjust their sensitivity. However, there are some drawbacks. The zebras are a little weird, just showing a big purple blob rather than stripes, and it seems like you can't have both the zebras and the LUT enabled at the same time. Also note that this doesn't include a vectorscope. The waveform is computed post-LUT, if the LUT is enabled. I also like that this has anti-twist pin slots next to the mounting screw so I can use it with those new ifootage friction arms without it unscrewing all the time. My biggest gripe with this product is that the UI is a pretty buggy. Navigating between the settings and the UI tools is done through fairly unintuitive gestures, and sometimes the picture settings don't show up after opening and closing them a couple times. Also, when customizing the exposure tools, for whatever reason it's way harder to customize the ones on the left side of the screen than on the right, so the gestures that you have to use feel pretty unpolished. For the most part, the bugs can be resolved by rebooting the monitor, which takes about 7 seconds. I bought this with the hope that I could use it with the LCDVF BM5 viewfinder. Just so people know, the frame on that device is too long along the short dimension to fit on this screen, so I chopped off one of the long ends of the frame and glued it on and the viewfinder works alright (albeit with a ~3mm gap along the bottom of the device). I probably would recommend getting a different monitor for that viewfinder though because when I pull the viewfinder off, its magnets are pretty strong and I can see that the glue holding the screen in-place probably won't be strong enough to withstand that for forever. However, it's not like this was a supported combination so I'm not docking any points for that.

Good Quality!

Battery does not lock

Overall, I really like the PT5. Have tried the Atomos Shinobi but has an extreme ghosting issue. I tried this, and it's actually better on the ghosting issue. The real problem that I have with this is the L series battery do not lock into place. The button stopper does not prevent the battery from coming out of the socket when using force. I have reached out to Portkeys and they kindly exchanged this unit for me. Will see if the new one has the problem.

Unfortunately this monitor is not capable of USB power. You will need to use a battery (Canon LP-E6 or Sony NP-F style batteries) or a barrel pin power source that provides 7 to 24 Volts of power.

The PORTKEYS PT5 II 5" 4K HDMI Touchscreen Monitor with 3D LUT Support (B&H# POPT5II) will output the same unmodified HDMI signal that it receives from the camera or other video signal source.
