Autel Robotics EVO II Pro Reviews

What's not to like

In this world of indifferent customer service and poor quality, I am so very much sold on doing business with BH Photo. Their sales people are knowledgeable, and know what they are doing. The products are quality, and they always arrive when they said they will. I just received my $2k dollar drone, and I never once worried about the purchase. The better BH gets, the worse all other online vendors look. Sincerely JRH

Best drone ever

I love the drone and love that there is no geo fencing

Much to love but issues hold it back

First off, the image quality on this drone is outstanding, both for video and for stills, I would say it definitely surpasses my Mavic 2 or Air 2s in that regard. The dynamic range is excellent and optics are tack sharp. What's not so good? The controller that ships with this drone is pretty terrible, it feels like something that would be paired up with a cheaper consumer drone and my experience was that it had awful range. I ended up modifying mine with a 4hawks antenna, which helped enormously. But I still didn't like the controller. I ended getting the Autel smart controller - which is hands down the best drone controller I've ever used, a truly pro piece of gear with a gorgeous screen. Now let's get to the core of what's the biggest issue with this drone: the way it flies is clunky and lacks finesse. This is a system killer if you're shooting video because, as awesome as the video quality is, it's extremely difficult to pull off nice smooth camera movements because of the lack in being able to finesse the controls. I've played around with all the modes and settings, which can help a lot, but it still leaves much to be desired in the way it flies. I've had many years of professional drone experience, and smooth dynamic movements in shooting video are virtually impossible to pull off with this drone. If you're primarily shooting stills, or static video or video with single, simple movements, then this might not be something to worry about. There are numerous other pros and cons to this drone but the way it flies is the biggest thing holding it back imo. Really a shame, because the image quality is phenomenal.

Video Lag Kills This Drone for Stills

By Kevin

I'm a still shooter shooting for publication. Primary subject is trains, which are moving. There is an intolerable lag in this drone, either a lag in the video between the drone and the controller (most likely), or a lag between when you push the button to take a photo and when the photo actually takes. Regardless, it ranges from 1 to 3 seconds and is inconsistent, making shooting a train traveling at any speed impossible to get it at a precise location. Everything about the drone is positive, so as long as you're not using it to photograph moving objects, it should be fine. My DJI Mini 3 Pro has the same problem, but less extreme: 1/2 to one second; and I did extensive testing and figured out it was the video feed, not the shutter button causing the delay. The Phantom 4 Pro has no lag at all, nor do any of the Mavic series, so I'm not sure why newer drones are being built with this lag problem.

I'm coming from years on the DJI platform. Though I bought this drone 'late' in the life of the EVO II (two years after release) I'm thoroughly impressed with this powerful and high-quality drone. I do video and stills for high-end real estate and commercial project and this drone fits perfectly into my set of needs to give clients the best quality they pay for.

Returned DJI Air 2S for the EVO II

By Fred

I had purchased a DJI Air 2S that I had to return because it didn't work. The vendor (not B&H) didn't have a replacement, so I did some more research and found the Autel Evo II and purchased it instead. The Evo II is so much smoother than the Air 2S both in flying and the video. Also has 360 degree obstacle avoidance and best of all... no geofencing. B&H was easy to order from and got it to me in just two days. Can't ask for anything else.

Great image, smooth controls

This drone is so smooth. With my previous (less expensive) drone it was impossible to get a smooth transition from still to moving. With this one, any drone motion or camera tilt can be done gradually and smoothly, resulting in much more usable video. The controls are easy to use and and the images out of this camera are beautiful.

Everthing works great!

Setup was so easy. The remote feels comfortable and intuitive. And the big thing for me is that the controls on this are so smooth. I can easily go from still into a gentle pan or turn, and it looks amazing. With my previous (and cheaper) drone, movement transitions were so abrupt as to be unusable. And this thing is fast in ludicrous mode.

I looked up a video on this unit and the device was constantly beeping in flight. Landing it was beeping. Using the home button it was beeping and when object collision was on more beeping. Can that be turned off?
Asked by: Mike
The beeping is due to the obstacle avoidance detecting something in its range. It can be turned off in settings.

My iPhone SE only has a lightning port for connection to the Autel remote controller. No such lightning connector comes with the Autel Robotics Evo II, or is such a cable listed as an accessory. Am I SOL, or is there a workaround (preferably other than buying a new phone w/ an acceptable port?
Asked by: Mitchell
I purchased a lighting type C connector and it did not work. The type C connector works in my earphone chargers so I am not sure of the issue. My DJI iphone connector worked with the iphone and the remote controller. It appears that my controller has square courners whereas the type C I have has rounded corners.
