Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Reviews

Awesome lens!

This lens is absolutely fantastic! I just tried it out last week during a vacation and am amazed by the results. I did both hand holding and tripod and in both cases the images are sharp and gorgeous. It only took me about 2 years before pulling the trigger on this purchase - lol- but am SO happy I finally did!

There are other lenses on the market that this can be compared to but I'm not sure if they are as good as what you're getting here for the money. This isn't a perfect lens by any means. It is heavy and isn't pleasant to take hand held shots with. I purchased a pistol grip with shutter release just to help with stability and reduce fatigue in my arms. It also doesn't have the widest aperture at minimum zoom range but super telephoto lenses rarely have apertures wider than f/5. Other than that, you're getting a lot of lens for your money. It is fully weather sealed and built like a tank. The autofocus is super quiet and pretty snappy for such a chunky lens. The image quality is superb even at its furthest zoom range. Not only that but you can even get some decent macro shots if you crop in enough. You could even use this for portraits if you have the space for it. The bokeh is also fantastic and buttery smooth. This lens does a great job of blending the background of your photos and making your subject pop out at you! While focusing in for my macro test shots the bokeh balls seemed to be perfectly rounded even when stopped down to f/8. This is a tricky lens to use for wildlife photography while hand holding but the images you are capable of getting make it well worth the effort and considering the price of some other super telephoto lenses it really is a great value. I have no regrets buying this lens!

Great Value for Sports Photography

I purchased this lens to add additional focal length to my lineup for shooting soccer. I was a bit hesitant on the minimum aperture for the fully extended zoom, especially shooting night games, but it has handed exceptionally well when paired with the Sony A7III. Focus has been tack sharp and quick as any lens I've used. The OS is great, even at 600mm on a windy day. My main gripe is how heavy and slow the zoom is to operate, even on the setting with least resistance. I have 5+ years experience shooting professional soccer so I know the flow and movements of the game, but I was struggling to quickly zoom in and capture game action. It's not a huge deal, but it's noticeable compared to my other internal zoom 70-200.

I'm headed to the Amazon and wanted a heavy-duty telephoto lens. This was one I could afford so I went with it. It is big and heavy but does a fabulous job. But, keep in mind there is a learning curve.

Excellent lens for astrophotography. Tact sharp! The versatility of this lens surpasses a telescope. AMAZING! I can shoot wildlife and sports, then go out at night and photograph the Andromeda galaxy.

Nice upgrade of my EF Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary Lens

I have owned the Sigma EF mount 150-600mm Contemporary Lens for six years and used it heavily. Both for my personal use with wildlife (mainly birds in flight) and as a sports photographer for a local high school. I used it regularly with baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, track and football in the daytime. I was pleased that Sigma offers this focal range in E mount in the sport version as well. It is sharper and faster focusing. I am very pleased with it. I am a fan of Sigma sports line of telephoto lens. I also own the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 Sport and Sigma 60-600mm Sport lens in EF mount. they work very well with the Sigma MC-11 adaptor on any of my Song mirrorless bodies. In fact, the EF 60-600mm works so well with the MC-11 adaptor that I don't see the purpose in buying the new Sigma E mount version of the lens. I really like tuning the Sports telephoto lens with the Sigma dock and using the custom switch. I uploaded some web sized pictures shot with this lens from a recent hike and of a stature in downtown Ogden.

I purchased this lens because I didn't have anything above 400mm. This lens so far is outstanding in IQ, build, and Optical stabilization.

Affordable, Does exactly what the specs say

Solid lens, hefty to hold but that goes without saying. Definitely recommend picking up some sort of monopod for it for easy travel shooting so you don't always have to take up the space a tripod requires. Sharp, quick autofocus in daylight, optical stabilization, what's not to love about this? Sigma continually knocking it out of the park for L mount.
