7Artisans 50mm f/0.95 Reviews

Basically a f/1.4 lens

It’s labeled as an f/0.95 lens, and they aren’t lying, but the images at 0.95 are so soft that they are borderline unusable. To get reasonably sharp images, you need to close it to f/1.4 which is really unfortunate. Too soft wide open, so you’re better off looking elsewhere. At 1.4, it’s okay. Still not great, but useable. Minimum focus distance isn’t very close, but pairs well with tubes to get macro shots.

Tricky yet unique lens

This manual lens is one of a kind and worth experiment with. So much light coming in and shallow depth if field makes this a magical lens. I go back and forth with 23mm as my go to ones for Fuji T30 II.

When used on the R5 or R6 does this lens force the camera into 1.6 crop mode with the resulting decrease in megapixels?

No, the 7artisans Photoelectric 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon RF is a completely manual lens that does not communicate with the camera. As such the camera does not know whether it is a crop lens or not. It is designed for a smaller sensor so you would have very significant vignetting wehn used on full-frame if you do not manually set the camera to crop.
