  • Versatile standard zoom designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 42-112.5mm equivalent focal length range.
  • Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and also affords greater control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
  • Improved optical design increases resolution and enhances imaging performance.
  • VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism provides fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance throughout the zoom range.
  • Minimum focusing distance of just 7.1" and a 1:2.7 maximum magnification for working with close-up subjects.
  • Updated ergonomic design for improved operability.
  • Connector port works in conjunction with Tamron Lens Utility software for customizing lens functions and updating firmware through the lens rather than through the camera.

I Love this Lens

I do a lot of timelapse photography, and needed a fast, sharp lens in this focal range. This lens is both fast and sharp. It's also a wonderful general-purpose lens for hiking, family and spontaneous shooting (see malt shop duotone panorama). Light, fast, autofocus & everything else works well. I also own several Sony primes including 24mm 1.4 and 135mm 1.8 G Masters. ZThey are considered among Sony's sharpest. This lens gives them a run for the money, at least on my a7iii sensor (24MP). I like a zoom for many timelapses, because it allows me to frame the shot perfectly. I've included two still frames from sunset timelapses. One shows trees on a ridge 9 miles away, the other Catalina Island 90 miles away. Very happy with the results this lens gives. Simple design. Nothing about this lens I don't like. Zero complaints. Highly recommend.

This lens is sharp as a tack and compliments the Tamron 70-180. I only wish they could include OSS but still, it's a great lens to have.

This lens is a must in my bag

While I was happy with the first generation of this lens, I wasn't happy with how it handled with indoor action sports like basketball and volleyball. That meant that while shooting sporting events, this lens remained at home. G2 has taken care of all of my concerns with its faster focus, and since the image quality is good it now sits in my bag wherever I go.

This lens stays on my main Sony camera the most. It's very versatile, clear, sharp and light in weight. I find it works very well in stills and videos. I'm quite satisfied with it.

Definitely better than V1

I LOVE this lens. It is so TACK sharp and Tamron addressed the weakenss of the gen 1 version which was soft images at 75mm wide open. The new version feels more solid overall not that the gen 1 version was a slouch. If you're in the market for a midrange zoom get this one. You will not regret it. Pay a little more and get the new one with no regrets. I've tried the Sigma 28 70. Again soft at the long end wide open. AF wasn't that great. The Sigma 24 70 is on par with the new Tamron optics wise but it's heavy and more expensive. Tamron hit a home run with the G2. It's near prime level sharp.

At my workshop event checked out another photogs Sony A7C with this Tamron 2nd gen lens against my Sonya7iii with th3 Sony G Master. Definitely could see better color via the Tamron lens. Next was how light it was(half the weight of the G Master) and smaller than the G Master. Sold my G Master and got this Tamron and used it with my new Sony A7iv. Great, light lens and besides half the weight it less than half the price of the Sony G Master lens. Crazy sharp like the G Master.

Impressive performance with A7iv

This lens makes a great pairing with the new Sony A7iv. The responsiveness to focus acquisition has been amazing. Great Eye-AF tracking for both humans and birds. Worked pretty good in an indoor event with so-so lighting and performed well in nailing focus and image quality. The lightness of the lens makes it easy to use and hold steady. Also worked well outdoors in the garden and at a social gathering (distanced of course).
