Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Reviews

The perfect lens when you only can have one.

If you need one lens to walk around with all day, this is my one lens to rule them all lens. It is an incredibly well-made lens that allows me to take rich, sharp photos. It's not the lightest or most compact lens, but the quality of the photographs makes it more than worth the effort to take with. The zoom range is versatile and the speed can't be beaten. I sold my 28-75/2.8 and 75-180/2.8 because they became redundant. I love this lens so much, that I bought two. One for the office and one for myself. You will be bummed that you didn't pick up this lens.

Unique, Well Built, Amazing.

This lens combines a great range with a great aperture which you never get together. Wide at 35mm all the way to 150mm while being at f2 through f2.8 is unbeatable. It is so good, it has replaced the need for a 70-200 in my opinion. Possible drawbacks you might have: 1. Yes, it is heavy. However, you adjust quickly and once you do it becomes the lens of choice for many situations. 2. Don't be too stuck on f2 vs f2.8. Yes f2 is not for much focal length (you loose it almost as soon as you zoom and it gets closer to f2.8) but I doubt you can see a HUGE difference. Just remember that if you are at 35mm, make sure it is set to f2. Sometimes it gets lost when you turn on the camera and goes to f2.8.

I have been looking for a true walk around lenses from the standpoint of my style of photography for a number of years. I wanted a fast lens with good bokeh, that could focus close up, and was sharp throughout its zoom range. The image rendering of this lens is excellent, it has good bokeh, and I can focus close enough so for all intense and purposes it is a macro lens. If I need a wider view than 35mm I can merge two images and If I need more than 150mm I can crop my 61 mp images so I am satisfied with the range given the performance of the lens within that range.

God's lens.

A game changing lens that successfully breaks the "holy trinity" and makes it some what irrelevant...progress in the lens industry is much appreciated as it's fallen way behind compared to the RDTE of camera body development. The water proof USB-C is brilliant and demonstrates how little RDTE money Canon, Sony, Fuji, and Nikon have actually put towards their lenses. These big manufacturers are still producing the same old DSLR lenses with minimal improvements and claiming they are revolutionary mirrorless lenses. It's ridiculous the minimal effort we continue to let the get away with as consumers. Not a single one of them with their millions in budget thought for a second to incorporate a waterproof USB-C? A rather obvious choice for connectivity? No instead they want to sell you docks and or use memory card in body upgrades. It's ridiculous when you think about it. Stop rewarding them with your money. Back to the lens... The lens hasn't left my a7R4 since I bought it. Everything you've heard about it's PQ, focus speed, aperture speed, bokeh, lack of CA, etc.. is very true. It's just excellent in performance. What's NOT true are some of the complaints, most notably the complaint on weight. It's 13 oz lighter than most 70-200mm lenses, no one complains about the 70-200mm weight because it's understood you're getting great range, aperture, and build quality. So why complain here? Because someone put it in your head, that's why. My wife weighs 115 lbs soaking wet and has no issue carrying this for hours at a time shooting my kid's athletic events in 90 degree heat and humidity. If you're having issues with the weight, hmm...go get checked out. The lens is a game changer, I will never buy a 24-70 or 70-200mm ever again. They are irrelevant to my mirrorless journey, and I pray there is improvement in supply for this lens because it's insanely excellent and other need to see for themselves what real progress in lenses looks like.

I shot 25 wedding ceremonies, 15 family for for sessions with this on Sony a7 IV. Super fast autofocus, had it out in a rain, sandstorm storm and works perfect no flaws. It's a work horse...100% stays on my a7 IV.

Worth the Long Wait

Great for: Wedding, Event, Sports, Portrait, hybrid shooting Not so great for: prolonged gimbal operation Pros: focal length, aperture, minimal focus breathing, customizable control, fast VXD AF motor, linear MF control, build quality Minor Con: flare resistance, no stabilization, stiff zoom ring Conclusion: Absolutely worth 6 months of wait. I would go as far as to say that this is the best third-party lens ever under 200mm focal length and definitely the most innovative Sony E mount lens ever. Paired with 16-35 f/2.8, it got you covered for 99% of scenarios.
