Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Reviews

The best lens I've ever owned

OVERALL: An awesome one-lens set up for shooting in a crowd, wedding, etc. F/2 is awesome in low light and even better outside. I got beautiful bokeh that people go out of their way to tell me how they appreciate them. NEGATIVE: It is heavy if you are walking around with it for even just an hour. Better have a good strap/hand strap solution for the setup. CUSTOM FEATURE: I have only played with customization for a little bit but it seems that the programable ring can only be used for aperture if you are in manual mode. Bummer! I shoot primarily in A or S modes. I guess it's time to learn to do full manual for real.

Best zoom I've had in 35 years

I've been shooting professionally since the 80s and this is simply the best zoom lens I've ever had. Believe the hype, it's just stunning. Build quality, IQ, zoom range, customizability, and functionality are class-leading. This innovative lens will stay on one of my Sony bodies pretty much all the time. The one (and only) gripe I have is that the three custom buttons arranged around the lens barrel are really easy to press by accident, which for me means that I slip into manual focus without realizing it sometimes. In future iterations, I hope that Tamron just adds a bit of resistance to these buttons to force us to be a bit more intentional when pressing them. Beyond that, as I said, best pro lens I've had since Reagan was in office. Just buy it.

Absolutely amazing

I'm using this for portraits and general use photography paired with my Sony A7 IV. I'm going pro next year and added this to my arsenal. I did a head to head comparison between this and my Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN. Even with the Sigma set to f/2.0, the Tamron was better! I ended up selling My Tamron 28-75 G2, Tamron 70-180, and my Sigma 35mm 1.4 DG DN for this. This lens is the best investment so far for my further career!

The perfect lens when you only can have one.

If you need one lens to walk around with all day, this is my one lens to rule them all lens. It is an incredibly well-made lens that allows me to take rich, sharp photos. It's not the lightest or most compact lens, but the quality of the photographs makes it more than worth the effort to take with. The zoom range is versatile and the speed can't be beaten. I sold my 28-75/2.8 and 75-180/2.8 because they became redundant. I love this lens so much, that I bought two. One for the office and one for myself. You will be bummed that you didn't pick up this lens.

I shot 25 wedding ceremonies, 15 family for for sessions with this on Sony a7 IV. Super fast autofocus, had it out in a rain, sandstorm storm and works perfect no flaws. It's a work horse...100% stays on my a7 IV.

Worth the Long Wait

Great for: Wedding, Event, Sports, Portrait, hybrid shooting Not so great for: prolonged gimbal operation Pros: focal length, aperture, minimal focus breathing, customizable control, fast VXD AF motor, linear MF control, build quality Minor Con: flare resistance, no stabilization, stiff zoom ring Conclusion: Absolutely worth 6 months of wait. I would go as far as to say that this is the best third-party lens ever under 200mm focal length and definitely the most innovative Sony E mount lens ever. Paired with 16-35 f/2.8, it got you covered for 99% of scenarios.

The best zoom lens I have used

The most unique zoom lens to date. When you never used it, you might think just another zoom that I might not needed. But man unless I am in tight indoor space. This is always the first lens I grab and use. I might also bring 24-70, 70-180 and a couple of prime along with it. but always ended up just use this 35-150 all day. I also like the tamron utility, you can change manual focus turn degree. Set custom button to different function. I really like the A to B rack focus function. Amazing feature for video.

This is a sharp, fast and overall great walk-around lens I can use for landscapes, portraits, etc... given its range from 35mm-150mm. When I first got this lens, I went out to take some shots to test it out and was pleased in spite of the poor weather conditions

The Tamron 70-180/2.8 only goes to 0.21x in auto focus. From 0.22x - 0.5x is only in manual focus mode and the image at 0.5x is blurry around the edges and practically unusable.

What is the distance between the base of the lens (i.e. mount point) and the far edge of the zoom ring (i.e. where the zoom markings are)? (asking so that I can determine whether the DJI Focus Motor can be used to control zoom remotely when mounted on a DJI Ronin RS2)

Tamron lists the length of the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E at 6.2 inches. They measure the length as the distance from the front tip of the lens to the lens mount face.
