High-Resolution Performance

Whether you shoot ENG, sports events, live entertainment, or broadcast-style footage, the Canon XF605 is poised to deliver high-resolution video using a compact form and mobile workflow options, including an iPhone app, a LAN port, and built-in dual-band, MIMO Wi-Fi.

UHD 4K CMOS Sensor

  • Capture rates of up to UHD 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 include broadcast-friendly 59.94 frame rates
  • High-speed capture at 1080p120 for revealing slo-mo shots
  • A high sensitivity of up to 2000 lux at f/12 is perfect for dimly lit locations

DIGIC DV 7 Engine

The DIGIC DV 7 engine powers the camcorder's processing of the 4K, 10-bit 4:2:2 video and selectable color matrix settings, including Canon EOS and other industry-standard matrix choices, as well as supporting Canon Log 3/HLG and PQ color spaces. The processor allows you to take advantage of the dual SD card slots for dual recording, relay recording, and multiple simultaneous recording options of your footage in MP4 or XFAVC.

15x Canon L Zoom

  • A 15x optical/30x digital zoom (25.5-382.5mm 35mm equivalent) lets you reach shots near and far, whether in the field or the studio, and the 9-blade iris provides a pleasing natural bokeh
  • Separate F/I/Z controls: Three rings provide professional, individual control over focus, iris, and zoom settings
  • Image stabilization: Three optical IS choices include standard, dynamic, and powered IS for smoother motion shots

Advanced Autofocus

The XF605 is the first of the ENG-friendly XF family to offer two autofocus features familiar to Canon EOS series users that help keep your image sharp during dynamic shots:

  • Eye AF zeroes in on your subject's eye for crisp eye focus
  • EOS iTR AF X (head detection) does a neat trick of remaining focused on your subject even after they turn their head to the side or away from the camera

Frame and Interval Recording

Create captivating time-lapse effects using the XF605's Frame Recording and Interval Recording modes. Frame Recording captures a set number of frames with each press of the trigger. Interval Recording enables you to choose the number of frames recorded and the interval length between them.

Cinema Color

Match the look of your other Canon cameras using the XF605's cinema color matrix selections. Use Canon Log3, HLG, and PQ HDR for beautifully detailed images.

USB Video Out

Thanks to a USB Type-C video output, you no longer need an HDMI to USB adapter and can take advantage of all the XF605 features while using it as a webcam, boosting the image and audio quality of your streaming output.

New Touchscreen

Gain intuitive touchscreen control, including start/stop with the XF605's Direct Touch Control menu borrowed from the Canon C70 cinema camera.

XFT iPhone App

Canon's new XFT iPhone CTM (content transfer mobile) app enables a truly mobile news workflow. Use the app to exchange proxy footage, audio, and metadata through your phone connection and a newsroom server and integrate content into assignment planning software.

HDR-Compatible Viewing Options

  • View your images simultaneously via the EVF (viewfinder) and fold-out LCD screen, and output via HDMI and SDI
  • HDR compatibility enables you to see finely nuanced images even in darker and brightly lit areas.

4-Channel Audio

A new multifunction shoe on the XF605 enables you to access up to four inputs on the XLR audio unit, perfect for capturing ambient sound plus one to three speakers.

Lightweight, Compact Form

The compact XF605 is about 25% lighter and 10% smaller than the XF705, a difference you'll appreciate on long shoot days.

Wired Remote Control

Use the LANC-based RC-V100 to control your main camera functions and shading options. Use an NU (RS-422) controller like the RC-IP100 to control the XF605 and other cameras in your network.

Canon XF605 Reviews

You are missing out

I have been a Canon XF series camcorder user for years. I had the XF300, XF100, and XF200s. I skipped the XF400s because of the prosumer body. As a part of XF100/200 Facebook groups, many were dreaming of Canon adding features to the XF200 such as 4k, and more. For years I covered events and produced ENG videos with my XF200s. The XF200s were a perfect size with the three-ring control. I purchased two C70s along the way for different looks from changeable lenses, and DOF to using Luts, C-Logs, and color grading. I really got into the cinema look. Here comes the 605... I ignored the XF705 because it was as large as the XF300. I assumed the same with the XF605 without reviewing it. I started reading up on the XF605 and realized, to me, it is the upgrade to my XF200s. Canon also tells me the XF605s are good B-cams for the XF605, C300 III, and C500. I will say to my C70s also. Many features from the C70 seem to have been placed in the XF605. The 4k, the touchscreen LED, the SD cards, the size, the 1-inch, C-Log3, ND filters, and more are features that really excite me. How excited am I? I purchased two XF605s to go along with my two C70s. This arsenal will be used in upcoming documentaries, films, sports, and ENG. The on-camera mic almost sounds like a directional mic. It is amazing. I cannot with for the firmware upgrades coming. I often ponder whether would I have purchased the C70s if the XF605s came out first. Minor issues/Suggestions: Placing anything on the front cold-shoe, such as a light or wireless receiver, will block the LCD from closing. On occasion, I have hit the switches near the auction section cover. I haven't checked, but an auto ND filter would be great to have like the XF200 had. Overall, its a great camera from performance to pricing.

Probably the most underrated camera on the market

Unbelievable feature set for the price, and the ease of use really changes my view of how to shoot documentary. I've been using the FX9, C300iii and C70 a lot this year, and this camera is just so much more enjoyable to shoot with. Obviously the use case for this camera compared to the cine counterparts is a lot different, but for true run and gun documentary, you can't beat this camera. Handholdable at 400mm, 3hrs of 4K shooting on a BPA-30, full size XLR's, internal ND, autofocus on par with the C70, super light weight, EVF + LCD without any cables, the list just goes on. Love this camera!

XF605 for Livestreaming

This camera is an absolute beauty! Pretty easy to use right out of the box. Zoom is okay, expected more but at 15x optical zoom that'll do! Depth of field is surprisingly very good, better than we expected. We use this for livestreaming at our church and we are very happy with our purchase. Can strongly recommend!

Coming from recording with a DSLR and a 70-200 lens primarily, this camera made the job a whole lot easier. I received it literally hours before a track meet. Charged the battery to full capacity and was off to the meet paired with a Sachtler Ace M (review below) Excellent combo with room to grow on the Ace M. Crazy narrow depth of field, all the buttons on the side in addition to an easy to use menu system. You can set darn near everything and easily. Battery that comes with it only lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, so you'll probably want a second battery. Lens hood has open close blinds to protect lens when not in use. Has pretty good low light results. Great for sports, so probably the same for anything else since sports is fast paced. See my Sachtler Ace M two stage mid-level spreader review

Very difficult to put on a filter.

The front of the lens is buried deep in the lens barrel. Very difficult to screw in a filter and even harder to remove a filter.

I haven't had many opportunities to use this camera just yet. I bought it as a B cam for filming theater productions and weddings. Based on the tests others have done, I think it will be great for what I want to do with it. I went back and forth between the xf605 and the canon R5 because I'd like a hybrid to pair with my C70 since I also do photos. Had I realized the R5 c was coming out, I would have bought that instead and waited on the camcorder . . . Oh well! I am excited about this camera. My 9 year old has started working as my second shooter, and he has some experience with the xf100. This camera is so easy to use, he mans it like a man.

Absolute beast of a camcorder

The lack of 24p isn't great. There also seems to be a weird hunting anomaly that happens when Powered IS is turned on and you're at the longer reaches of the zoom. In contact with Canon about this issue. As it appears to be a common issue. That's where the cons stop. This camcorder is incredible value for money. Loads of zoom. Great AF. Lightweight body. CLog3. Wide DR. And the fantastic 422 10 Bit internal. Hands down best camcorder I've ever owned.
