This 50-sheet pack of 11 x 14" Seagull Select VC-FBII Paper from Oriental is a baryta-coated fiber base paper with a smooth glossy finish designed for traditional black & white photo printing. Its variable contrast designation permits working with multigrade filters, from #0 to #5, to adjust contrast to suit printing with different negative densities. The paper has a double weight bright white base and produces a cool tone image characterized by stark black and pure white values. It also responds well to various toning processes to heighten its archival stability or to adjust the print tone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My only regret is that I didn't discover this paper sooner I debated for a while between buying the Ilford or Oriental paper. Ultimately, my wallet decided that this paper was the way to go, and I'm glad it did. The paper has great quality and thickness. My professor, who's printed for people such as Mary Ellen Mark, actually commented on how great the quality was during one of our critiques. So if you don't trust me, trust him. Excellent results. My only issue (if that) is that this paper advertises itself as cool tone, but it appeared to be warmer than other brands I've tried in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Paper I print from 4X5 negs and have been at this for over 35 years. It's the only paper I use and highly recommend it to anyone who still loves the craft of making silver prints. It seems to keep very well too, without loosing and of it's wonderful qualities. I also noticed that the quality control is excellent. I can go from one boxx to another and make exactly the same print using the same print time and contrast. If you haven't tried it yet, you should. Tom

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My current go to paper As a former Ilford user, I initially tried this paper out for the student discount. Now, it's my favorite, and I'll keep using it even after my status as a student expires. I print split-grade with an Aristo VCL4500, and this paper does everything I ask it to do. It also seems to be just slightly heavier than the equivalent from Ilford (although that could easily be my imagination.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Had to order VC since no Grade 4 available but will expect it to perform as well as their graded papers. I use a cold light enlarger (Simmons Omega) and occassionaly have the need for a harder paper. I have used it for years, used Gallerie for a while but when Seagull again became available I switched back. Like the way it tones also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High resolution fiber-based paper This paper gives very nice contrast and the tone transitions with single-coated lenses are impressive. It has a resolution which for me are nowadays unsurpassed on commercial papers. The results are even better after Selenium toning. It may look a little blueish when directly compared to the warm tone Oriental papers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best paper I've used in several years I have been a professional fine art printer for over 40 years have and this paper has been my preferred choice for the past three years. It does have noticeable dry down, but once you learn to allow for this in exposure, it is a pleasure to use and the results are magnificent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Darn Good Paper Fast, consistent, paper: good dynamic range: a bit exposure-fussy (you can see notable differences in one-second adjustments). Pretty-much the equal of Ilford at a lower price-point. I especially like double weight: it doesn't crinkly much when dried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Greatest Fiber based papers Fiber based paper are becoming hard to find. Oriental Seagull still is as it has being for years one of the best in the market. The full tonal range from deep blacks to pure whites makes this paper the best printing experience for B&W purists.
