A compact wide-angle prime, the Sony E-mount 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma provides excellent edge-to-edge sharpness in a stylish all-metal design. An ideal lens for landscape, nature, interior, and architectural photography, the lens provides a modestly bright f/2 maximum aperture for low-light performance and shallow depth of field control. Additionally, its fast maximum aperture makes it a natural choice for night sky and astrophotography. The lens is constructed of two SLD glass elements and one FLD glass element to correct axial chromatic aberration. The lens also incorporates two high-precision glass-molded aspherical elements, which enable the total weight of the lens to be reduced. In regard to handling and focus, this lens features a stepping motor for quick and quiet AF performance that suits both photo and video applications.

Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Reviews
Fantastic
This lens quickly became my standard option as a party lens, i.e. for tight interior shots of people groups. It's small and light while reasonably fast at f/2, with good performing auto focus. As others have said, the build quality is exquisite reminding me of my manual focus Voigtlanders. In terms of image quality, the sharpness is top-notch. I shoot it wide open most of the time and, unless there's motion blur, the eyelashes are razor sharp no matter where in the frame they happen to be. My understanding is that the optical compromise Sigma made with this lens to achieve the remarkable combination of small form factor, speed and sharpness is the geometric correctness. Without lens profile corrections, there's a fair amount of barrel distortion. However, unless you have a bunch of straight lines near the edges, that's actually a GOOD THING, because this renders peoples heads and other ovals in a much more natural way. For these use cases this lens is a better choice than expensive and more rectilinear choices like Sony's fantastic 24mm GM. Basically, a perfect 24mm for what I need. I also like how most Contemporary lenses in the Sigma line share the common filter thread. Very tempting to build a kit!
Great all day lens
Solid, light weight, excellent for landscape and street photography. Great size-can carry around all day without tiring. Sharp from f/2.8 on up. Softness at 2.0 that creates a dreamy look. Excellent metal build and classy magnetic lens cap. Terrific lens at a good price.
