Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 Reviews
great optic
Excellent sharpness and a great match for my Z5. Images work well with the in-camera effects. Ideal for Tabletop work.
I like it more than the 50mm
I had the highly rated 50mm Z 1.8, but I returned it. Two reasons: a) weight (too heavy) and b) photos weren't that much better than I could get with the 24-200mm zoom. The 40mm is much nicer: small and lightweight. So far I'm liking the photos I'm getting with it!
You can't go wrong at this price.
This lens makes my Z5 much nicer to carry. So far, i have been impressed with he overall picture quality and sharpness. 40mm is kind of growing on me as an everyday carry focal length. I am very pleased
Compact But Packs A Punch
Wasn't too sure about the focal length @ 40mm. I'm just so used to shooting your standard 35mm and 50mm prime length. So I asked myself, What does 40 even look like? I used my Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED to do a comparison w/ 35mm, 40mm, and 50mm. Came up with the obvious conclusion that it's closer to 35mm but with a few steps forward, you can get a just-as-tight 50mm shot. And at the price point (don't have the practical coin for the 35 nor 50 S-Line) with the Nikkor Z 40/2, it was the exact prime lens I need for street photography to add to my newly converted Z-system (Z6II). Works perfectly with the IBIS, dropping to a low shutter speed for night shots. Although, there is a slight chromatic aberration when wide open at f/2. But nothing post-production can't fix. B&H shipping and package were great, although, I was one of the MANY customers that were affected by the midwest cold storm days before Christmas. Caused a day delay (not B&H's fault) but I still received it on Christmas Eve. OVERALL, 5 stars I love it.
Awesome lens
Love how small it is (compared to other Z lenses). Images are as clear as my handholding allows, and it's a pleasure to carry around on my z 6.
Great little lens
I've kept this lens on my z9 since I got it and do most of my 'walk around' shooting with it. I added the Sensei aluminum hood for protection and so far both are working out great
Great all around lens!
Bought this as my first Z-mount lens after picking up a Z7ii, the pictures are nice and sharp, and no real noticeable vignette, even at the widest aperture. It's very compact and makes for a great "adventure" lens. Only cons I've noticed are that the body and mount are primarily made of plastic and there doesn't appear to be any weather sealing, but for the price you can't really complain! Definitely a great lens for the money!
My new go to lens
I've been very satisfied so far with my new Nikkor lens! And I love the feel and shallow depth of field the f/2 gives me. And under $300, is hard to beat. It's now my favorite portrait lens! If you're looking for a quality low cost lens, this might be your ticket.
