See the Big Picture
Improving on their Monarch 5 design, Nikon's 8x42 Monarch M5 Binoculars present a wider field of view for a more immersive observational experience, while maintaining the same focus on comfort and performance the Monarch line is known for. Extra-low dispersion glass, anti-reflection multicoating, and dielectric-coated, phase-corrected roof prisms deliver bright, high-contrast images with true-to-life color and minimal color fringing.
Premium Optical Performance
With 8x magnification, the M5 Monarch binoculars bring distant subjects in close, but are easy to hold steady. The generous 42mm objective lenses produce a bright image, even in lower-light conditions like dawn and dusk. Extra-low dispersion glass minimizes chromatic and spherical aberrations, while phase-correcting prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve light transmission, contrast, and resolution.
Use and Handling
The roof prism design and closed-bridge configuration provide a compact and comfortable form factor. High-eyepoint design provides ample space between your brow and the eyecups for a clear field of view, even when you're wearing glasses, and the twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups make glassing a pleasure, with or without eyewear. The large slip center focus wheel allows for precise focus control, even while wearing gloves. Dioptric adjustment and a wide interpupillary range allow for easy use by a wide variety of people. The M5 Monarch can be mounted with the optional adapter.
Construction Details
  • Environmentally friendly Eco-Glass is made without lead or arsenic
  • Textured protective rubber armoring provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet weather
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions
  • IPX7 waterproof rating means they are submersible to 3.3 feet for up to 30 minutes
  • Black coloring allows them to remain inconspicuous in all environments
  • One-piece tethered ocular rainguard protects eyecups from water pooling in them from rain or spraying water when hanging from the neck
  • Tethered fold-down objective lens caps prevent loss during observation sessions

Nikon Monarch M5 8x42 Reviews

Novice buyer - couldn't be happier

My wife and I had a few pairs of cheap binoculars that we inherited. We used them to watch birds in our backyard. After both pairs broke I spent some time looking for a quality pair. This Nikon 8x42 Monarch checked all the boxes. Wow. What a difference. So glad the cheap ones broke. Maybe avid bird watchers would appreciate something pricier, but for us, these are great.

Small and mighty

I'm not a person who wants to talk about my glass when birding. I also think most folks pay too much for binos. You just want something with all the ED type coatings that are made to take a beating. I also don't want to worry about them because they cost more than a month's paycheck. If you are like me, then these are your birding binos.

Perfect binocular for Birding and butterfly counting

I've been debating on buying my first binoculars for a while for butterfly counting and nature photography. Although I was looking at more expensive and higher magnification, I decided to go with the Nikon 8x42 Monarch M5 based on other recommendations. I was very pleased with the stability and the ease to focus into my subject. These are so fun to use that I will keep them in my bag frequently. The lenses appear high quality with no refraction glare. They are easy to focus and work well with my very petite face. They are light weight and material is easy to grip. I also like the fact they are water proof as I am out at the seaside or on a boat most days. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a reasonable birding or nature binocular.

Great For the money

The binoculars feel solid and well made. The images are sharp and clear to the edges. You could spend a lot more, and not get much more.

Purchased these as a gift for my wife as an upgrade to the binoculars she has had for over 30 years. She loves them. We are looking forward to reengaging in our hobby of bird watching. I liked the webpage and the ease of navigating through the options, reading reviews and ultimately the process to purchase these. Thanks!
