Wise Advanced 160GB CFexpress Type B Reviews

Solid Warranty Service by Wise

I'm a professional sports photojournalist. During halftime of an NCAA D1 Basketball game, I removed a Wise 256 GB CF-Express card from my 1DX Mark III. While I was shooting to the card moments prior, the card would not read in either my primary or secondary card reader, or either card slot when reinserted back into my 1D. Look, all cards/drives will fail eventually, that is a given. It wasn't my first card failure, it won't be my last. I was shooting dual cards in my 1DX Mark III, so no harm, I pulled the files from the second slot. My advice is to **always shoot dual cards when you value your work** Anyway, I emailed Wise after the basketball game around midnight, within minutes, Wise responded back asking for a copy of my B&H receipt and my shipping address. Just based on my word alone that the card was defective, Wise overnighted me a replacement directly from their headquarters in Taiwan! That's utterly impressive service! For that alone, Wise bought a returning customer. A couple of years ago I had to jump through a bunch of hoops with ScanDisk, told myself never again when I had to pick up the (then brand new) CF-Express media in early 2020 with only a few brand options available at the time. Speed-wise, the card holds up. When called upon, I've been able to shoot upwards of 500+ RAW files at 16 FPS, without the card locking up or camera buffering out. I've also had no issues reaching the rated frame buffer on my R5. The cards also ingest quickly to my Mac. I wish these things were cheaper, but I justify it as paying for service. Would I have liked this card to last more than 20 months, sure, but my guess is I'm working these a bit harder than most. Summary of the review, Wise stands behind their products and will have your back when other manufactures may not.

I was reluctant to buy an unknown brand (usually stick to Sandisk) but saw the positive reviews to decided to give it a try. Have been shooting 8K RAW footage on the R5 with this card and have had no problems! It's reliable and fast.

Works perfectly in my Nikon Z7

This memory card is easily $70 cheaper than other brands for the same capacity. Works perfectly in my Z7. No problem reading the card with my Wise and ProGrade readers. Great download speed from a reader to my PC. Grat value!

Failed After A Few Months

Purchased two 128 GB Wise CFX-B Series cards. Used them in Nikon Z6 IIs. Formatted in camera each time I downloaded. One quit in the middle of a wedding. Would have been in trouble had I not had a second card slot. Card will not mount or read in any camera, or with any of the three card readers I have tried on my iMac or MacBook Pro.

Great so far...

This is twice as much card as I planned on buying, but it was a deal and with the dual reader to boot I had to consider it. After carefully comparing comments and tests of this and the Wise 500GB card I concluded that they were apparently equally reliable. You can never have too much media I guess, and the price/real estate ratio on this was too good to pass up! So far so good, will thrash it in about a week and update the review if any issues.

A useful capacity at a relatively reasonable price

Memory is expensive, but this is a reasonable size at a reasonable price as long as you are not shooting lengthy 4K or8K video or thousands of images at a time.

Using with EOS R5

With EOS R5 -- strange issue with only having limited video options available (4K-U or FHD; then 59.94p, 29.97p, 23.98p; IPB) --- but don't have other formats available (8K, 4K-D, etc) -- anyone else have this issue, or are you successfully using this card with all video options available?

Does this work with the Nikon D800 and the Nikon D3?
Asked by: Paul
No. The D800 and D3 have CF card slots, not CFexpress. The D800 also takes SD cards, but that is also not the same physical size as the CFExpress and will not fit these cards. This is only for newer cameras that take CFExpress cards (or certain cameras with XQD card slots that can be firmware updated to take them).

I have tried both with one card in and with both, the issue is the same. Are these cards defect or do you know if they can be updated?
