Additionally, the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 supports both Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) right out of the box.

Robust Power Solution

Constructed from high-grade 5K Black Metallic capacitors, alloy chokes, 16+1 DrMOS power stages, ProCool II sockets, and Digi+ VRM, the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 delivers optimal power performance suitable for your gaming needs.

Comprehensive Cooling

Gaming for prolonged periods of time can cause heat to build up within your case, so ASUS designed the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 to leverage multiple thermal solutions that efficiently dissipate heat. VRM heatsink, PCH fanless heatsink, double-sided M.2 heatsink, M.2 heatsink backplate, hybrid fan headers, and Fan Xpert 4 with HydraNode utility software all work together to ensure your components stay cool.

Whether you prefer wired or wireless networking, the ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 includes a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port and Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) wireless capabilities. LANGuard technology ensures you get the strongest wired signal possible with lower latency, essential for competitive online gaming.

USB Connectivity

Equipped with various ports and headers designed to provide power to external devices, you get USB 3.2 Gen 1 and Gen 2 ports, designed to provide support for resource-demanding peripherals with data transfer speeds up to 5 and 10 Gb/s, respectively. The USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 boasts up to 20 Gb/s data transfer speeds, allowing you to use advanced devices such as audio and video interfaces. An internal Thunderbolt 4 header enables you to equip your system with an optional Thunderbolt 4 card, unlocking 40 Gb/s transfer speeds, daisy chaining, and additional video-out support.

ASUS Q-Design

Embracing a unique design focused on making installation of components quicker, ASUS' Q-Design with Q-DIMM allows you to install memory modules easily with locking mechanisms. Q-Latch makes installation and removal of M.2 storage drives quick and easy. PCIe Slot Q-Release and Q-Slot offer a larger release mechanism so you can remove your graphics and utility cards. Q-LED uses various LEDs that tell you which components are running properly upon startup, making troubleshooting easier in the event of a failure.

ASUS Strix Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 Reviews

A Very Nice Board

By RiverDoggie
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2022-05-04

To get it out of the way, this review was prompted by Asus' offer of a 90-day warranty extension for my Strix Z690-A motherboard, but that in no way is influencing my opinion, only prompting me to submit a review. Although I've only had the machine up and running for about a week and a half, that week and a half has been absolutely smooth, with no problems whatsoever. My last motherboard was from (a competing company also beginning with an A) that had given me problems from the start, so much so that I'd had it replaced under warranty only to have those same issues recur. That motherboard was replaced along with the microprocessor and chip cooler; there are no new motherboards for the old chip. I've got an i7-12700K installed in the Strix with an AIO water cooler, and the installation went smoothly and easily, with the exception of one mounting hole being reluctant to line up with my Corsair case's bolt hole. Since the previous board lined up without issue, I think that the ASUS was a slight bit off. A little bit of levering with a small driver got it to finally align. The owner's manual could be a little more involved. Physical installation as well as initial start-up may be a bit confusing for a first-time builder. That said, it was a simple matter to install, populate, and get running. And run it has! I have had zero issues with the Strix, and it blazes. Since I was recycling my old system parts (except as previously mentioned), I'd needed a DDR4 board. I'd had an ASUS in a previous build that ran well, so that plus reviews (and excluding the company that had made the board I was replacing) had me going with an ASUS board. I'd chosen this one in large part because of its CMOS reset button; my old board had needed resetting about every 3-4 boots, and due to its problems, that was when staying with stock settings! I haven't played with processor overclocking yet so don't know how much I'll be needing that reset button, but I'm glad to have it anyway. The only changes I've made to the UEFI have been to set the memory to an SMP setting; no problems. I don't know why, but my download speeds via Ethernet cable are almost always literally twice what they were with the previous board. Whereas I would rarely see 300mbps on the old board, and much more often in the vicinity of 100-120 tops, I am frequently seeing 500+mbps on the Strix. Oh yes, I like! I haven't tried a wireless connection yet. So far, not only do I have zero regrets concerning my purchase of the ASUS Strix board, I am very satisfied with it. I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars due to those minor issues mentioned above, but have no problem rounding that up to 5 stars for a review. For what it's worth, I rarely give 5 stars; 5 stars means perfection and, although this board's and it's owner's manual are not perfect, they are very close to it.

Really great motherboard

Paired this motherboard with an i9-12900KS and some gskill d4 64gigs memory. My problem was I thought I could put two m.2 drives in the system that has previously been raided and be able to reformat them in this new system. The motherboard would see them every now and then and windows would not show them at all. Took them out and formatted them in another computer I own, reinstalled and all was good. System runs smoothly and better than expected

Fantastic Mid/High Z690 Motherboard

I made sure to get an ASUS motherboard when building my latest computer after having a good experience with my last board (ROG MAXIMUS HERO VIII). The Strix Z690 did not disappoint. The AI overclocking is genius, it's managed a 35% overclock on my i5-12600k and did so painlessly. XMP settings are great, the BIOS is well configured and the board itself has enough fan and RGB headers to keep me happy and not have to shell out extra for hubs. The DAC quality is really fantastic and powers my studio monitors well, and the included WiFi antenna gets great reception. I'm also quite happy that ASUS offers a Z690 board made for DDR4, the latest DDR5 is still too expensive for too little gain for my tastes.

The motherboard is beautiful. All seems to work well except for one thing. The computer reboots as it starts to go to sleep and nothing I mean nothing seems to prevent it from happening. I believe this is a firmware issue. I updated to the latest stable firmware to no avail. Hurry up Asus and drop a firmware package that will fix this issue please.

It's Amazing, but...

It could use a restart button especially because my case does not have one either. Other than that it's beautiful, Has 4 nvme slots plenty or RGB connectors. Five fan connectors. What more can you ask for. Oh yeah a restart button.

I bought this for my girlfriend's all white PC. Not only does it look great, but the channels for cable management in the heatsink make for a clean build and after experiencing the GPU eject button, it will be hard to buy anything but an ASUS board again.
