DJI Ronin 4D 6K Reviews

I can't believe I shot it!

This camera has put me 10X closer to shooting footage that looks like it came straight from Hollywood. I'm always looking for equipment to increase my production value, and this Ronin 4D is the most significant improvement in production value that I have achieved in my life! The lidar focus and tracking are outstanding, but the 4th axis makes everything so smooth that you won't believe you shot it! I can literally shoot an entire movie with one long moving shot... by myself! This isn't just another piece of equipment, this is the one that closes the gap between Hollywood and Indies.

Ronin 4d is Ridiculous

First of all I get 2 reactions when I tell people I have the ronin it's either WTF amazing! Or huh? What is that? And when I show them they are in agreement with the first reaction wtf amazing!. You have to truly be around this monster to appreciate it. Everything about it screams magic. When I can run down a hall and it looks like a dolly shot effortlessly it is already worth it. I don't do reviews much but this camera has continued to blow me away. The only down side is the weight capacity of lenses but this is only if you are using the gimbal otherwise you can choose whatever lense you want but know that you should get a support system over 3 pounds. Just think about the first time you played a video game or went to the movies it has that inherent child like wonder when you hold it. DJI THANK YOU

Great Camera except footage is not useable

I totally agree with Ethan. After two weeks of trying and exchanging the camera once, even with the latest firmware installed, the video is very jittery and jumpy. DJI support has been good and it still working on the problem with the sample video I sent them. How can DJI sell this camera? All but one YouTuber ever mentioned the problem. Nothing that I did resolved the judder/jittery footage (i.e. if you shoot at 48FPS and 4k instead of 6K the video still stutters.) I also really wanted to love this camera as I am a solo shooter, and it saves so much time and would be extremely efficient. The menus are great and tracking can be very cool when shooting only one or two subjects. Weight is no problem if you use a BlackRapid DOUBLE BREATHE STRAP BH# BL361003 and Peak Design quick releases. Except for the jitter the camera is great, but the footage is not useable. I have spent about two straight weeks trying to solve this problem. My guess is that the sensor or processor cannot process all of the data fast enough.

I Really Really Want To Love It But...

How can DJI sell this camera? It was like all the YouTubers on YouTube were paid to keep quiet. For $7K, it was the worst camera I have ever had. Sold my Komodo Stormtrooper to buy the 4D after all the hype. The first unit that I received, the rolling shutter was so bad, I couldn't believe it. Footage was so jittery, it was unusable. The LIDAR autofocus will not focus beyond 20 feet (rated for 10 meters) using the Sony E Mount and 24mm 1.4 GM. I tested the camera for a week trying to reduce judder before taking it on a big shoot. After 4 days of shooting the big project, I came home and found that any subject beyond 20+ feet was out of focus (and yes, they looked in focus on the monitor during filming and of course, I can only blame myself for relying on a camera that only cost $7K). While I was testing the camera, the autofocus worked perfectly because my kids were 10 feet or less so that was my mistake for not checking anything beyond that distance. Did I get a bad unit? I returned it and asked B&H for a replacement and the replacement unit came quickly but had all the same issues. I did not get two bad units, I know others in the 4D group that had the same issues. I know others that claimed to have good cameras showing me clips that had the same issue but they somehow did not see it. I did like that the tracking was good, the 4D 4th axis stabilization was superb, and I would have kept the camera if the jitter/judder/rolling shutter was not that that bad. Judder was the deal breaker for me. DJI's solution to the judder was to shoot at 2K resolution and switch to Super35 mode to reduce rolling shutter. However, nothing that I did resolved the judder/jittery footage (i.e. if you shoot at 48FPS and put that on a 24P timeline, the footage was so jittery unless you slow it down). I really wanted to love this camera as I am a solo shooter, and it saves so much time and extremely efficient. I turned it on and it was ready to go, never have to deal with balancing or carrying a ton of gears but I was so disappointed because I really wanted to love this camera so much...I guess it was never meant to be.

Perfect for Camera B. Only downside: No RAW

I ordered this when it was first released, thinking I'd get the RAW capabilities. That was then stopped since RED is a bunch of greedy A%#h&#. It still has ProRes 422 which works well when matching with Mavic 3 footage. So I'm not crying over that. When using this with DJI lenses, it has a very flat lifeless image quality, nothing romantic about the material you get, so it's great for a Cam B. If you want to get those nicer shots, get the E-Mount adapter and throw on some good lenses. The menu is great and fool proof, all settings right there and buttons on the sides for ease. The handles are great and very easy to get used to, and buttons can be set to user preferences in the menu. Wish there were more options before ordering between the 5.5" screen and the 7" so you'd get that on the side. I would like the bigger screen, but the 5.5 is good enough until then. Never thought I'd use the LiDAR, but it came very handy when running full speed behind an actor in terrain and I needed to watch my footwork rather than pulling focus. Footage came out great.

How are you charging so much for this camera that is so flawed...Don't take my word for it try out the camera yourself and read the reviews...I had so much hope for this camera, and it a total disappointment.

Almost Perfect.

Can I use this with an Easyrig Minimax?

Can I use this with an Easyrig Minimax?
Asked by: Amanda
The mounting point on the Ronin 4D handle is too much to the back (Center of gravity is completely off). You can use the original Easyrig Camera hook to mount it to the front of the handle, which covers then the buttons on the handle - so that wasn't a solution for me. My solution was to mount a Tilta Ronin 4D top handle and mount the easyrig quick release camera mount in the second mounting hole from the front. My Tilta Ronin 4D handle was too long, the camera brackets hits the handle - I had to grind down a couple of millimetres. So not perfect either. The z-axis is not working perfectly, if I use the camera on the Easy Rig - there is some jumping up and down. Its better when I release a little bit of the tension on the Easy Rig..

Can you please tell me what kind of cord I need to purchase for the DC-in port on the camera? Thanks.
Asked by: Shaun
This is the most confounding issue I have ever had with customer support on a product. You asked the same question I did. There is a dedicated DC in port on both the camera and the ultra brite monitor. One would think that it could be used to power the camera connected to a power supply of some sort if you plan to use the camera or monitor in a fixed location. I have gone round and round with DJI and no one seems to have an answer to the super simple question how can this DC port be used to power the camera? What DC power supply is recommended or supported? Or at the very least- what is the specific type of connection that is on the DC in port with pin assignment- so we can find something that will work?
