Angelbird CFX32PK Reviews

Solid build quality

I got this in preparation for my usage with the Z9, the device itself it pretty well built and accompanying materials in the packaging were a nice touch ( had a personal feel to it). Used the AngelBird SE512GB on my Z6 and did some transfer and found it to be decent. So far no complains from me but i will have to see how the performance is down the road in a couple of months time.

Best CFe reader I've found so far

The build quality and performance of this reader is top notch. Testing had it delivering full-rated performance (1734MB/s read, 1462MB/s write) to/from a Sony TOUGH 128GB card consistently. One caveat, though, is that according to Angelbird support, that level of performance is NOT possible with their own cards. Specifically, at least, with the AV Pro 1TB MK2 card, where performance is limited to less than half that read (712MB/s) and much lower on write (934MB/s.) To obtain better performance with Angelbird's own cards requires a Thunderbolt card reader (per their support.) This is still my go-to reader without question, just not when using Angelbird's cards.

Quality product at a good price delivered from the US to Australia in around the same time it takes you to read this review, test driving the Z9 at State of Origin in Sydney (it's our biggest rugby league game) & needed a CF card. Cheers legends.

If you have Angelbird CFexpress cards you need this

This does exactly what it is supposed to do. I have only used it twice and had no problems and I assume that will continue, given the high quality of Angelbird products. It's not, however, just like any other card reader. It requires the special cable that comes with it, not just any USB-C cable. And it offers only the CFexpress slot, no SD card slot. Importantly, you must use this reader if you're using Angelbird CFexpress cards. Those cards are upgradable (I don't know what the upgrade does) and require this reader in order to do the upgrade. I didn't give it five stars because of its lack of an SD card slot and the need for a branded cable. I am guessing that Angelbird has good reasons for those features/lack of features but I don't know what they are.

will this card reader work with only mk2 angelbird CFexpress cards, or will it also work with the prior angelbird cards or other brands of CFexpress type b cards?
Asked by: Matthew
As I found out direct from Angelbird support, yes, the cards will work with this reader, but you will be limited in speed. For example, the 1TB MK2 AV Pro card maxes out at around 700MB/s read, and 930MB/s write. For comparison, non-Angelbird cards can hit over 1700MB/s read and 1400MB write in this reader.
